Campus Celebrity: Charlie Fay

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bates chapter.

This week our HCB Campus Celebrity is Charlie Fay. In NESCAC games, this lacrosse star led the conference by scoring 25 goals, he was a standout in the NCAA tournament, and was recently named Second Team All-American, all after missing six games. Charlie told HCB that he’s been playing lacrosse for as long as he can remember because of his father, John Fay. He said his father was quite an accomplished player in his day, so he’s been a great mentor and coach for him over the years. The father-son duo now plays in men’s leagues together. Looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! HCB considers Charlie a celebrity for many reasons. Besides his talents on the field, good looks, and 6 foot 4 stature, Charlie has a golden personality that doesn’t go easily unnoticed.

Since lacrosse plays such a large role in Charlie’s life at Bates, HCB wanted to catch up with some of his current and former teammates. Here’s what some of the guys had to say about our campus celebrity:

  • “As a first year, Charlie Fay is one of my biggest role models. He is always working harder than everyone else and it’s obvious to everyone on the team. Lacrosse is a skill game and every inch matters. Whether it’s shooting before and after practice or training in the offseason, he encompasses everything I love about lacrosse. He’s not only fun to watch and play with, but he’s also always helping others get better and picking teammates up when they’re down. He’s a great player and a great person and I can’t wait to get back on the field with him!”
  • “Stellar metaphor of Charlie: He personifies fierce passion yet shows wisdom beyond his years.”
  • “Charlie Fay is an old soul living inside of an awkward tall man’s body. At the end of the day, what keeps the world spinning for Fay is laughing and crying in a perpetual cycle. He is all that is man (as we’ve seen on the field) with elements of a woman that keep him both grounded and better informed. His awkwardness may make some uncomfortable, but he is a truly nice person. I <3 Charlie Fay.”
  • “Charlie is a man of many talents. Not only does he excel at Lacrosse, but he is also an avid juggler and bird enthusiast. He is always bugging the guys to join him on his daily trips to Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary.”
  • “Charlie loves the game of lacrosse more than a lot of things in his life. Throughout the day he practices endlessly. He works on his step down shot before breakfast and works on his off hand right before bed. You could say he’s obsessed. Kind of weird but hey as Charlie likes to say, ‘The game never stops!’ and that motto is why Charlie is so talented.”
  • “Besides being a star on the lacrosse field, a little known fact about Charlie Fay is that in the off season he produces music for Rich Homie Quan. The Rich Homie was so grateful for Charlie’s help and influence that he made last summer’s runaway hit ‘some Charlie Fay’ in his honor.”
  • ”Charlie is the type of guy to give you a kick in the butt when you need it, but also cry with you when you need a cry. His passion for life is something that inspires everyone. I remember him one time telling me, ‘Hey Stef, it’s alright. Don’t be afraid to tell her how you feel. Fortune favors the bold.’ Charlie Fay is Bates lacrosse.”

Through his friendships and hard work on and off the lacrosse field, Charlie has created a big name for himself at Bates in just two years. HCB can’t wait to see what this star will accomplish in the future. Thanks for being you, Charlie, and making Bates great!
