A Besties’ Guide to Halloween Costumes: The Last Minute Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bates chapter.

The month of Halloween is already upon us, which means Halloweekend costume planning starts now. Since Halloween is a perfect excuse for college students to dress up in their wildest outfits, why limit this celebration to one night? For those who aren’t aware of college Halloween lingo, Halloweekend is the term used to describe the Thursday through Sunday nearest October 31. Although Halloweekend is incredibly exciting, brainstorming three or four unique costumes can be exhausting, so most of us wait until the night of a big party to start thinking of ideas. Luckily, costumes that incorporate your besties might make brainstorming ideas during a time crunch a little easier. Check out the three below ideas for help jumpstarting your Halloweekend planning! Don’t worry, I’ve already tested some of these quirky/cute ideas out with friends, so you’re all covered.

101 Dalmatians

The best part of this costume is the number of friends you can coax into joining the fun. You can dress up as a bunch of puppies OR you can take on the role of other characters (Cruella de Vil anyone?). A quick and easy costume is buying a big white t-shirt, adding black spots, and incorporating some cute dog-like accessories that you may already have in your dorm room. Everyone has their own twist on costumes, so making sure you and your friends are all identical is not really necessary. No spots are the same on every Dalmatian anyways, right?

Grapes

This idea takes a bit of preparation, but the outcome is definitely worth all of the work. The only supplies you really need are balloons and purple or green pieces of clothing, so this costume is perfect if you have zero time. Also, if you don’t want to use balloons as part of your costume, just skip this part (most of my balloons popped by the time I took the costume off anyways). Whether it’s just you and your bestie dressing up as grapes, or a whole bunch of you (pun definitely intended), this costume will leave many people in awe of your creativity and confidence to pull this slightly quirky idea off.

Anchorman (or any movie featuring a famous duo)

Any Will Ferrell movie character is appropriate for Halloween, but there’s something about Anchorman that makes for a simple and fun costume. All you need are some extra business clothes, a crafty microphone, and some Anchorman quotes and jokes to whip out night. Just like the two previous costumes, the more friends you include, the better the costumes will be! There are too many hilarious characters (and quotes from the movie) to pass up for this group costume idea.

Next time you’re starting to stress about a costume idea, take a look at some of these ideas for inspiration. Although these ideas may be a little different from the typical angel/devil costumes spotted all over campus, I promise you won’t regret being a little different!
