Holiday Movie Season BlockbustersBy November 12, 2012 - 1:02pm The season of Blockbusters is upon us. It always seems that about this time of year, when the weather is becoming more and more unpleasant and the days are becoming shorter and darker, that Hollywood starts to pull out all the stops. I recently went to the movies and was blown away by the sheer volume of movies coming out within the next two months. So, what are the must see films this holiday season? These are the five I have put at the top of my list (like I have time to go see five 2-hour films… hey, a girl can dream). READ MORE |

An Ode to HalloweenBy October 25, 2012 - 12:27am Midterms are an unfortunate part of the college experience. At least after finals there is the promise of a well deserved and long break, be that winter break or summer vacation. Midterms don’t have the same reward but they’re just about as grueling and stressful, not to mention the fact that they are drawn out over the course of an entire month. What happened to October being the month of autumnal beauty and excitement? I guess Halloween is our reward for surviving Midterm Month. After studying for hours in order to get good grades and feel smart, Halloween allows an excuse to dress up and act really, really stupid (in the best way, of course). READ MORE |

Jezebel SOHO: The New Kool, Kosher Restaurant You Should Check OutBy October 16, 2012 - 10:37pm One would not necessarily associate the word “kosher” with sexy. Harry Stimler and Menachem Senderowicz sought to redefine the conventional definition of kosher dining with the creation of Jezebel, their hip new restaurant across from the Soho Grand on West Broadway. The space is a beautifully converted 100 year old house with a downstairs lounge and upstairs restaurant featuring food by Café Boulud’s Bradford Thompson. READ MORE |

The Barnard RunwayBy October 8, 2012 - 9:24am For this week, I’m not going to focus on all the wonderful intellectual things I have experienced so far at Barnard as a transfer student. No, this week I’m going to talk about how fashionable we are as a community. Seriously, I don’t know if I have ever been on a more interestingly and eclectically stunning campus. Everyone I walk by as I dart from class to class (undoubtedly looking like a complete mess) is remarkably fashionable and pulled together. Tell me, how in the midst of mid-term madness, how can so many of the Barnard women look like they just walked off the runway? How is that even possible? READ MORE |

The Inside Life of a Retail BuyerBy October 2, 2012 - 2:21pm As New Yorkers are pulling out their wool sweaters and puffer coats to be prepared for the onset of cooler weather, the fashion world is focused on Spring and Summer of 2013. Buyers are placing their orders for February and March deliveries of shorts, bikinis, and tank tops for us to purchase as winter ends. I tagged along with a couple of buyers for Seaside Luxe, a management group based in Los Angeles who buy for several resort boutiques worldwide. Here is some feedback I received from the buying department: Q: What trends are you seeing on the runway that we will see in stores next spring? READ MORE |

A Look Back at New York Fashion Week: Outlandish OutfitsBy September 17, 2012 - 9:27am It’s not difficult to be photographed at New York Fashion Week. Throw on a black and white striped blouse with a pink paisley blazer and hot pants, and then scour a flea market for shoes that are marked vintage, which in this case, really means hideous and discarded. Put it all together in an attempt to look effortless, carry a designer bag, and slouch against a wall at Lincoln Center. Pray to appear on various fashion blogs such as The Sartorialist, Bryan Boy, Garance Dore : chances are you will. READ MORE |
