Global Symposium in India: JungHee's StoryBy March 27, 2012 - 12:00am Friday night: You know those times when you keep waiting for reality to hit you so you can begin to understand and experience the situation? Well that hasn’t happened to me yet (still), as we step on Indian land. We’ve landed fairly late at night so as we head to the YMCA, we try to absorb as much as we can of the nighttime cityscape. There is so much honking! At moments, cars and motorcycles drive so close to one another because there are no road surface markings. Yet within this chaos is this omnipresent social order and calm that I find very impressive. I notice after 10 minutes that there are no women outside. READ MORE |

Feeling Hygge in Denmark: A Study Abroad StoryBy March 19, 2012 - 12:00am The last day of fall semester marked an interesting transition for me. Instead of packing up a small duffle and heading home for a month of good cooking, sleep and time with old friends, I found myself stuffing all of my belongings into bins and reluctantly saying goodbye to campus and all that I’ve come to love here at Barnard. It was time for my semester abroad. In only a few short weeks I’d be flying to Copenhagen, Denmark for four months of studying, eating, traveling, and exploring Europe. I didn’t know what to expect but I predicted that I was going to have a ball. READ MORE |

What & How To Wear: Spring 2012 Fashion TrendsBy March 19, 2012 - 12:00am In every department store window in New York City, spring is popping up in the most vibrant colors that fashion has seen in years. Bloomingdale's windows feature neon Ready-to-Wear, Saks Fifth Avenue's windows are bursting with mannequins dressed in yellows, oranges, and fuchsias, and Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York's windows contain more of the same bright hues. Spring is definitely in the air, and fashionistas everywhere have embraced these colors with a sigh of relief that winter is nearly over. READ MORE |

St. Patty's Day: NYC EditionBy March 17, 2012 - 11:53am Saint Patrick’s Day began as a feast in honor of Saint Patrick, an Irish patron saint. My grandparents celebrate by eating cabbage and corned beef, the traditional Irish foods, with something to drink, of course. However, if you are in New York City, Saint Patrick’s Day does not have to be this tame! There are plenty of fun ways to celebrate the holiday. A simple pneumonic may help you plan your day. A Leprechaun is hiding a pot of… READ MORE |

Websites That Help, Not DistractBy March 6, 2012 - 12:00am While one may feel that a basic knowledge of Facebook, Reddit and Hulu is all a (procrastinating) collegiette needs in life, I am here to convince you otherwise. I have made it my personal mission to do the seemingly impossible: conquer the infinite abyss that is the World Wide Web. In any event, as we are now at that point in the semester when midterms have begun and work has really started to pick up, I figured that it would be nice to reveal some of my greatest productivity-improving discoveries and share them. I hope that these sites will help alleviate some of the stress inevitably inflicted upon us, and perhaps help you study as well. Good luck with your work! READ MORE |

When Bacchanal Isn't EnoughBy March 5, 2012 - 12:00am As the winter chill begins to thaw, spring break approaches, and the first half of midterms becomes a mere memory, you begin to get out of your winter slump. Staying curled up in your dorm room reading Plato is feeling even lamer than usual as you yearn to bask in the randomly warm weather. So instead of preparing for the next round of painful midterm exams and essays, you begin to fill your social calendar with all the great events you want to attend this spring. But, alas, you are at Columbia and you find that there is nothing too exciting going on this spring in Morningside Heights. READ MORE |

Making Good Food Choices When it's That Time of MonthBy March 4, 2012 - 11:16pm It’s that time of the month again…. here come the pints of Ben and Jerry’s and family size potato chip bags, right? Wrong. Fighting the urge to binge and focusing on healthy foods to eat when you’ve got your period will actually make yourself feel better. Fatigue and moodiness definitely don't help with your willpower, but certain foods can make all those symptoms more tolerable! READ MORE |

President Obama to Deliver Barnard's 2012 Commencement AddressBy March 3, 2012 - 10:28am Don’t be surprised if you start to see MIB (Men in Black) doing security sweeps on Barnard’s campus. No, they are not here to protect Sarah Jessica Parker at Liz’s Place, nor are they here to keep Oprah and Gloria Steinem safe from enthusiastic, and cheering crowds. On May 14th, President Obama will be at Barnard's 2012 commencement to address our senior class. READ MORE |

Athena Film Review: "Circumstance"By February 27, 2012 - 12:00am A few weeks ago, I went with fellow Elliott residents to see a foreign film called Circumstance at the Athena Film Festival. Even though the festival is finished until next February, the film is no doubt available online somwhere. So rather than watching reruns of "Friends" when staying in on a Thursday night (though always a good choice), you might like to give this film a shot! READ MORE |
