The 10 Mistakes You'll (Probably) Make As A FreshmanBy September 17, 2012 - 12:00am I’m not here to generalize all freshman into a mass of general naivete, but who am I kidding? I pretty much am. It’s nothing personal, it’s all part of the learning experience. I would probably not be the perfect person I am today if I had not puked in a cab, in my purse, and then showered, fully clothed, in the Sulzberger shower at the tender age of 18. So this is a judgment-free zone. Here are 10 mistakes that you might make (at least, either my friends or I have made them) as a freshman. (Disclaimer: If you feel you’ve made none of these mistakes by May 2013, email me with proof, or I call shenanigans.) READ MORE |

From A to B: Australia to BarnardBy May 8, 2012 - 11:43pm I can still remember some of the first words one of my roommates said to me– “Be prepared. At first, it feels like the week will be never ending, and then suddenly a month goes by, and another, and another and then you find yourself packing to leave.” Somehow, that is exactly what has happened. Not Another Disney Sex StoryBy May 2, 2012 - 4:29pm I’m not sure what bothers me so much about idealized stories of love and virginity. Maybe it’s because I think they’re fake; stories fabricated by our memories sewn together by the moments we want to believe are the whole truth as we allow the times too painful to remember decompose. No one’s life is a Disney movie, and no one’s first experiences of love and sex and virginity and adolescence are seamless. Boobs and penises and vaginas—at least for the first time—are just awkward, messy and slightly traumatizing. READ MORE |

Barnard's Annual Gala: A Night to RememberBy April 30, 2012 - 12:57pm Last week, I had the incredible fortune to be invited to Barnard’s Annual Gala at the Plaza Hotel. The evening focused on raising money for student scholarships and honored two impressive women who have been very influential to the College. What a night! Barnard definitely knows how to throw a party. Dressed in stunning cocktail dresses, students, alumnae, friends and family all rubbed shoulders under the big crystal chandeliers. While it was fun to run around all dressed up and see Barnard Society enjoying their delicious dinners, one of the most important and inspirational parts of the evening was the auction. READ MORE |

My First Time: A Learning ExperienceBy April 24, 2012 - 12:00am As I reach the end of another year, I decided to take the time to write down and reflect on some meaningful experiences that have shaped the woman I am becoming. Reflecting on past experiences is an integral part of growing up and of understanding why I do the things I do. Oprah on Campus: Barnard's ScreeningBy April 18, 2012 - 3:21pm I clearly missed the boat on the whole “Oprah’s coming to campus!” bit (sooooo many emails), but I certainly found out what I missed when I went to the screening party held in the Event Oval last Sunday night. Of course, what I missed was a really cool opportunity to learn about the state of the modern woman from none other than Gloria Steinem and Oprah Winfrey themselves. Although the hour-long episode mainly focused on the life and work of Ms. READ MORE |
