What is your role in Passing Strange? Producer

How did you get involved in the theater scene at Columbia? I kind of got pulled into producing unexpectedly through Orchesis and had no idea what it would have in store for me. A combination of googledoc prowess, email typing speed, and telling people what to do in my usually-too-loud voice skill is what somehow made me good at producing, but being able to unite a huge group of people to create amazing performances on campus is what made me LOVE it.  Now, the theatre community is 100% home for me on campus.

What’s been the most rewarding part of producing Passing Strange? What makes it different than other productions on campus? The most rewarding part of producing Passing Strange has been getting to work with such an interesting new combination of people.  I’ve gotten to know and work with such an incredible group of people in such an exciting capacity – this BTE and CMTS collaboration is a really inspiring and uniting effort. We are all so jazzed about this show and you can feel that in the room whenever we are rehearsing or working together.

What is the show about? This show is about a young man who grows up in LA and feels that he has to leave in order to discover himself, his art, and most importantly “the real.” It takes him to Amsterdam and Berlin and it ends up being not quite the journey of self discovery that he imagined.

3 reasons Columbia students should come see it?
Jonah Weinstein’s costumes
Elleny Gutierrez’s set
The fact that I gave probably a dozen standing ovations during our dress rehearsal runyesterday.

Now for some fun–
1. Favorite coffee hotspot near campus?
Classically, Hungarian. But somehow I never have cash on me…

2. Thing you’ll miss most about Columbia?
Walking across campus at night. We live in a beautiful place.

3. Prezbo or Deantini?
Deantini all the wayyyyy
