Do you ever find yourself surrounded by dudes and being unable to comprehend English? Maybe it started off simple, but the sudden influx of slang words make you question if you are still speaking the same language. Don’t be ashamed. Plenty of non-dudes find themself a bit lost by a dude dialect every once in a while. Whether your goal is to be a fluent speaker or just to understand, starting with the basics is the way to go. Here is a short dictionary of words my dude friends taught me, to help you on your journey:

Alpha Male: The confident, charismatic, dominant man that all the men want to be. The “It girl” of all the men.

Examples: Chris Hemsworth, Johnny Depp, Obama

Banger: A great song, one that may even cause head banging.

This new song is a banger

Beta Male: A careful, cautious, less confident male. Oftentimes a nerd or a class clown.

Examples: Pete Hornsberry from 30 Rock, Seth Rogan, Mark Zuckerberg

Bro: Word used to describe fellow male, or close male friend.

    What’s up bro?

Bruh: Another way of saying “seriously?”

Guy 1: I lost my keys.

Guy 2: Bruh.

Cashed: Extremely tired, Exhausted

Dude, I am cashed after that workout.

Chick: Girl

What a beautiful and intelligent chick.

Dank: Nice, good, high quality

This is the dankest brownie I’ve ever had.

Dope: Cool, awesome, nice

That speaker system is so dope.

Gains: Term used to describe putting on muscle while losing or maintaining fat.

Bro you’ve been makin’ all kinds of gains.

Kobe: Word one says before throwing something into a target area.

Guy 1: *throws paper into wastebasket and misses*

Guy 2: Bruh, say Kobe and you’ll make it next time.

Narc: One who reports to the authorities when someone breaks a law, especially laws concerning drugs or partying.

That guy’s alright. He’s just a narc. He called the cops because mark was partying too loud.

Peaced: Describes one that has left.

Dude: Yo did you see Jessica?

Dude 2: Yeah she just peaced.

Popped: 1. To recently be out of money.

    2. To be caught by the cops.

    1. I can’t buy anything, I’m popped.

   2.  Guy 1: Where’s John at?

Guy 2: I heard he got popped.

Pleb: A term inspired by ancient Rome social classes used to describe one perceived as inferior.

That dude is such a pleb

Rekt: Word from Rick and Morty to describe being extremely intoxicated.

     Let’s get rekt.

Ripped: 1. Describes well-defined muscles

       2. To be incredibly high, by means of cannabis. Synonyms: stoned, baked

  1. Lolo Jones is ripped.

  2. I was gonna go to class, but then I got ripped.

Send it: 1. To agree to an action with great confidence or enthusiasm

       2. An encouragement or alternative to saying “Just do it”

  1. Guy 1: Wanna go out tonight?

Guy 2: Send it!

     2. Guy 1: Should I talk to her?

         Guy 2: Send it!

Sick: Another way to say something is good.

    Sick trick, bro.

Sketch: Word used to describe a person, place, or thing that gives one the heebie jeebies, or is of a suspicious, ominous, or dubious nature.

Guy: Dude this website looks so sketch, I think it’s a scam.

Stoked: A feeling of exhilaration, enthusiasm, or excitement usually about an upcoming event.

I am so stoked for that show on Friday

Swol: 1. The swelling of muscles after a workout caused by increase of blood blow.

2. Describes an insanely muscular person.

Today was leg day and my quads are so swol.

That dude is so swol. He probably got locked in the weight room.

Treat: An insult or a burn.

    Ooooo big treat.

Yoked: When one has well developed chest, shoulder, and neck muscles, resembling a yoked oxen.

I’m too yoked for my shirt.

Of course, there are countless dialects of dude and the dudes near you may speak something entirely different. Don’t lose hope, most dude words describe the same things. When in doubt, assume the said unknown dude words mean partying, great happiness, or muscle gains.
