Yee-haw, Ya’ll!
Yee-haw, Ya’ll!
When: Saturday, April 14, 2012
What: Alpha Psi’s Annual Rodeo
Where: 2065 Sandhill Road, Auburn, AL
Why: It’s that time of year again. Everyone is asking “Are you going to Rodeo??”, tickets are going on sale, and at least two of your friends have Garth Brooks’ lyrics “it’s the ropes and the reins, and the joy and the pain, and they call the thing a rodeoooo” as their Facebook status. Rodeo is here! Rodeo is Alpha Psi’s annual philanthropy event that raises money for local organizations and charities, such as Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and the Storybook Farm in Opelika. Rodeo is one of the highest attended philanthropy events in Auburn and its fame has spread across the South, for good reason. Rodeo provides attendees with amateur rodeo events, musical entertainment, and a much needed break before exam season sets in. If you’re a first-timer to Rodeo, here are a few tips from Her Campus:

Stay Hydrated!By hydrated, I mean drink A LOT of water. I know Rodeo is known for being a rip-roarin’ good time, but you’re not going to be having fun if you pass out at 10 in the morning. Stay smart and make sure you’re prepared to be out in the sun, cheering, singing, and (mechanical) bull-riding all day long!
Go to the Flea Market.Rodeo is one of the few times of the year that it’s acceptable – and practically required – to wear camouflage clothing and jorts. While you’re there, try to find some broken-in cowboy boots or a cowboy hat. Rodeo only happens once a year, so you might as well go all out! We recommend going to the flea market or thrift store because by the end of the day, you’re going to be sweaty and dirty and ready to throw away every article of clothing you’ve been wearing.
Listen to some Eric Church music.Every year, Alpha Psi has a country star come and perform at night after the day of rodeo festivities has ended. This year, Eric Church is headlining and Easton Corbin is opening the show! If you’re not absolutely in love with Eric Church and freaking out that he is performing, (can you tell I am?), here are a few song suggestions: Hell on the Heart, Drink in my Hand, Smoke a Little Smoke, Guys Like Me, Love Your Love the Most, and Homeboy.

If you want more information about Rodeo, you can visit the official website at http://alphaphsirodeo.com/. On the website, Alpha Psi has information about entering events such as bull-riding, bronco-riding, calf-wrestling, and cattle-roping, how to buy tickets and parking permits, more information about their philanthropy, and pictures from last year’s rodeo. Get ready, collegiettes – the Rodeo’s coming to town!
