An Open Letter to the People Who Say I’ve Changed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

Dear anyone who says I’ve changed,

I have and it’s for the better. Going away to college didn’t change me (well not completely). Life changed me. I’m still me, but I’ve grown a lot. I’ve realized that there are more important things in life than worrying what other people think about me. I’ve realized that wearing t-shirts and Nike shorts everyday is equally okay to wearing a dress and heels. As cliché as it sounds, I haven’t really changed, I’ve just found myself.

College is a place to explore, try new things, meet new people, and go on any adventure you want, because the sky’s the limit. I’ve found myself saying yes to so many things the past two years, because stepping out of my comfort zone is the only way to truly experience life. “Wanna go explore Biringham?”  “Yes!” “Wanna go rock climbing?” “Yes.” “Wanna drive to Columbus for donuts?” “YES”

As the saying goes, “In a world full of Kim Kardashians be a Joanna Gaines,” but better yet, be you. It takes a lot of courage to change in a world where everything is driven by social media and the latest trends. So thank you for pointing out my personal growth. It helps me realize just how far I’ve come as a person. Maybe you should take a look in the mirror and stop living in the past. Change is okay. News flash: Life isn’t going to get better just by chance, it takes a change; a change in attitude, a change of heart, or a change of direction.

When summer time rolls around, and I go back home, don’t tell me how college has changed me. Even though I may dress a little differently or talk with a little more of an accent or tell you countless stories about my new friends from school, I’m still me, but a better version. The hardest part is taking the first step, and then the rest simply falls into place.

“When people say that you have changed, it simply means that you have stopped living life their way.”

Sorry not sorry. I’m okay with that.

Sincerely,

The Girl Who’s Changed
