How to Prepare Yourself (and Your Senior Bestie) for Graduation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

It is officially spring, which means grad season is upon us. One of the toughest things about graduation are the goodbyes; goodbye to Auburn’s beautiful campus, goodbye to four years of traditions, and hardest of all, goodbye to all the friends you’ve made throughout college. Here are three tips for preparing your older friends for graduation (and mentally preparing yourself for one more year without them).

1. Remember the all memories (and create new ones)

During this amazing transition into the “real world,” it can be hard to get caught up in all the emotions of your friends leaving. But don’t be too emotional that your last few weeks in Auburn together are spent crying. It’s okay to cry but don’t forget to create countless memories and take a million pictures to remember her senior year.

2. Don’t be selfish

It’s your best friend’s day to shine, you’ll get your chance soon enough! Go with her to take senior portraits, help her pick out the perfect heels to walk across stage in, and don’t complain if she wants to get Toomer’s lemonade every day for a week. Make the most of the weeks leading up to graduation.

3. Be supportive, no matter what

Not only can graduating be emotional, it can also be stressful! Believe it or not, not everyone is ready to leave college and grow up so this new chapter can be scary. Whether your best friend is going straight into a big-girl job or to graduate school, be supportive of her. Promise to send her postcards of Toomer’s Oaks wherever she ends up and keep all of the traditions you two shared with each other, alive.

Having older friends has its perks but the one downfall is there will come a point when their time at Auburn is done. The one good thing to remember is that there are so many new friends to make all over campus. Use your best friend graduating as motivation to go out and make new friends and memories. After all, they say you meet your bridesmaids in college, and graduation definitely won’t stand in the way of that bond.
