Fashionably Transitioning From Winter to Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

Spring will be in full bloom soon which means it’s time to do some wardrobe re-evaluation. When you’re just getting in the swing of one season and have finally perfected the trend of the year it seems the flowers begin to blossom, or die along with your go-to outfits. A solution for this ongoing struggle in a fashionista’s life is to get more creative with your season transitioning. It is common belief that one can only ‘work’ something in its “designated season.” But if you are creative enough you can properly ‘work’ that piece in any season! Transitioning can be challenging, but isn’t it usually a challenge that leads to the most inspiration? Let’s hope this inspiration results in a killer outfit. This semester we are making our winter to spring fashion transition–let this be a guide for you to make it a smooth one.

1. Add a pop of color to some of your darker winter pieces. Wear head to toe black in spring and people might think you aren’t sure what month it is. But if you add just a simple pop of color from a colorful blazer to a bright scarf, it can completely change the essence of the overall outfit.

What would normally be considered a winter outfit is made appropriate for Spring with just the additional pop of color in her scarf and warm wedges!

2. LAYER but make it lightweight – The transition period from winter to spring is the most unpredictable weather of the year. A fashionable solution to this weather confusion is to wear lightweight layers that you can take off as it heats up. Thin scarves and cardigans are best for this type of layering.

Adding the cardigan and scarf will not only keep you warm on a chilly Spring morning, but they add further dimension to the outfit.

3. An unexpected piece – As Miranda Priestly from the Devil Wears Prada so famously stated, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking”. I’m very well aware that incorporating florals into your spring wardrobe is a given, however just a small unexpected floral piece can really add a captivating spring element to what would normally be considered a winter outfit. Mix it up and get creative with where you decide to go floral.

Your winter combat boots are more appropriate for Spring because of the unexpected flair these floral socks give them!

4. Pair your sweaters with a skirt- Sweaters are generally a staple in the winter, but they can be completely transformed and worn during the Spring (if they are lighter-weight) just by adding a bright skirt.

The skirt will completely draw away from the sweater making the outfit look as though it was destined for Spring.
