5 Totally Attainable NYE Resolutions for the Busy College Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

Making resolutions is often on everyone’s radar at the start of a new year, but keeping them is another story. Some are too ambitious, while others are just too boring to keep the interest. Here are some resolutions that even the busiest (or unmotivated) students can start out with to make the plunge into a better 2018.

1. Go to the gym but start out easy

If you’re anything like the rest of the population, you say you will go to the gym to get healthy and end up quitting after a week for various reasons (“I don’t have time,” “It’s too crowded,” etc.).  Auburn’s Rec Center is one of the best in the country though, so round some friends up and make a pact to go just 3 times a week. Before you know it, it’ll be routine.

2. Stop eating Chick-fil-a so much

This one is totally easier said than done. It is so convenient to grab CFA on your way home after a busy day. An easy solution for this one is to make sure to always keep your fridge stocked with fast but good for you food. I loathe grocery shopping as next as the next person, but make a point to go every other week and grab things you’ll actually want to eat.

3. Instead of napping use your afternoon to Get. Stuff. Done.

I am guilty of this but honestly napping takes up so much time during the day and then you end up going to bed super late to get all your tasks completed and the cycle continues daily. A simple solution? Go to bed earlier! Get enough sleep so you won’t feel the need for a midday slumber. Also afternoon coffee has become my best friend.

4. Do something that you’ve always wanted to do

There’s not good time like the present time. If you’ve always wanted to take a dance class or join the intramural flag football team, just do it! You only have four years here, step outside your comfort zone.

5. Talk to someone new every week

Instead of putting your backpack on the bus seat next to you, make eye contact with someone getting on the transit and strike up a conversation with them. Sit next to a stranger in class and ask them how their day is going. We are the Auburn Family and we all love each other.

At the end of the day, life is too short to hold back. Make a promise to yourself that in 2018, you will make the changes you want to see in your life and don’t let anything stand in your way.
