10 Amazing Song Covers by Amazing Artists

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Auburn chapter.

The only thing better than covers of your favorite songs: covers of your favorite songs done by your favorite artists!  These talented artists prove that song covers aren’t about trying to be better than the original song, but rather about trying to make the song your own.  Here are 10 amazing covers of songs we love by artists we love!

Kodaline covering Ed Sheeran’s Sing

Kodaline is one of my favorite artists when it comes to covers because he comes up with such brilliant and original ideas.  The little bits of Shake it Off and Uptown Funk were the perfect touches to this already incredible cover.

The 1975 covering Clean Bandit’s Rather Be

I could listen to anything sung by Matty Healy for hours but there is something so raw and beautiful about this particular cover.  I love the intense changes they made to this song by switching the tempo from upbeat to soulful.  (Also, check out their incredible cover of What Makes You Beautiful.)

Miley Cyrus covering Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness

This is one of Miley’s very best song covers.  It really shows her vocal range and raw talent.  She takes her own liberties with the song and it really pays off.  This song is hauntingly beautiful sung in Miley’s southern tone.

The Neighbourhood covering Destiny’s Child’s Say My Name and Justin Timberlake’s Cry Me a River

This is one of my all time favorite covers.  It is such an amazing mashup and remix of both songs and it really showcases Jesse’s amazing vocals.  They made it their own by exploring the lyrics while also adding their signature sound.

Labrinth covering Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off

This cover is amazing because it takes on a completely different meaning and sound from the original.  Taylor Swift herself posted a link to this cover and couldn’t stop raving about how amazing it is.

Demi Lovato covering Ed Sheeran’s Give Me Love

Demi has one of the greatest voices in the industry today and this cover is an excellent example of this.  Her voice is so soulful and powerful which really connects to the lyrics.  The only thing I would change about this cover would be to cut the backup vocalists and leave it to Demi.

Thirty Seconds Of Mars covering Rihanna’s Stay

It is so amazing to me that one guy is so extraordinarily talented.  The original song is so beautiful and seems almost untouchable because it’s so good, however this cover takes such a different approach to the song that it’s just as amazing in it’s own right.

Taylor Swift covering Vance Joy’s Riptide

This cover is such a beautiful change for Taylor Swift.  It showcases how great of an artist she is in a completely different way than her own music does.  It’s raw and perfectly simple.

Leighton Meester and Dana Williams covering Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams

This is another cover that I’ve loved for a while.  I don’t think I could like this cover anymore than I do.  It’s perfect and such an amazing piece vocally for both singers.  This song is arguably one of the most covered songs out there but this may just be the best one.

Ed Sheeran covering Beyoncé’s Drunk in Love

It was incredibly difficult to choose only one cover by Ed.  He’s the king of song covers and he can do no wrong.  He knows exactly when to change the song and when to stay true to the original.  The effortless switch into 1 + 1 is just the cherry on top of this amazing cover.
