Odds are that if you have walked past the Sanford mall this year, you have seen the people who seem to gather every day to show off their skills and have fun. I was intrigued, so I went out and tried all of the activities and came up with a list of the top five things to do when you have time.

1.  Slack lining

Slack lining was a great experience. The regulars get so excited to help the new timers and offer lots of support. Everyone is so nice in taking turns on the line and making sure that you are okay when you fall off the lines. Every day (except some Thursdays) two lines are up, the beginner line (see below) which is about two feet off the ground, and the advanced line, which is about four-and-a-half feet off the ground. It may look daunting but If someone like me, with no balance and coordination can have fun on the lines, than anyone can.

2. Hacky Sack

Hacky Sacking is actually much easier than it looks and no one will ever laugh at you for missing the sack, even if it is obviously coming for you and you weren’t paying attention. That happened to me and everyone was really nice about it. The good thing is that virtually no one is a pro at hacky sack so no one is there to judge; everyone is just there to have a good time. Of course if you are a veteran hacky sacker, so much the better! Come down and show all of us beginners how it’s done.

3. Extreme Hula Hooping

The hula hoopers are not out as often, but they do come out at least a few times a week. When they are out they are all really fun people to talk to. I found that hula hooping is very fun and really easy. I can’t hula-hoop the traditional way, but the hoops are really fun to roll across the mall and fling into the air, even if you don’t catch them. Most of what happens in hula hooping is good fun and great friendships!

4. Juggling (or watching)

The jugglers were amazing. They are so cool to talk to and time just flies when you’re watching them juggle beanbags and bowling pins. Sometimes they even jump up on the slack line and see how long they can stay up while juggling! They are also really nice about teaching others the trade.

5. Yoga

The impromptu yoga lessons were so amazing. Just like in every other activity everyone is really encouraging! Not only is Yoga fun, but it streaches all of your muscles and leaves you feeling great for the rest of the day

It may seem like these things take all day, and you can stay out until the cows come home if you want to, but I did all of these activities in my free hour between classes, and I still had time to eat a relaxed lunch and stroll back to my room to pick up my things for my next class!

So if you want to learn how to slack line, or you just want to watch the show and listen to the most awesome music, I highly recommend that next time you have five minuets, go out to the east side of the mall and let the fun begin!
