Speakeasy Tattoo Co. Gives Back With Free Tattoos

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

On Saturday, March 4, Speakeasy Tattoo Co. will be giving free tattoos to anyone who makes a $20 donation to a participating charity.

This is part of a weekend charity event that spans from March 3-5. Greg Kinnamon, the owner of Speakeasy Tattoo, stated: “It is important for anyone to be a part of this event, but especially huge for Speakeasy because we are open 365 days of the year in this town. It’s good to have a day that we give back to the incredible community that has supported us for the other 364 because we wouldn’t be here without them.”

The event starts on March 3 with an Art Crawl where you get to see all of the offical designs that you can get. If you plan on getting a tattoo, make sure to go on Friday to pick out the one you want. They will also have free beer from PRB and snacks from Vidalia Restaurant. There will also be a meet and greet from 5:30-8:30pm where you can meet the artists who will be working with you the next day. Then Saturday, March 4, starting at 7am, Speakeasy will give you up to five tattoos as big as the palm of your hand for a minimum donation of $20, which will go towards one or more of these charities: Wine to Water, Medi Hospice, Blue Ridge Conservancy, Watauga Humane Society, F.A.R.M. Café, DIY Skate Park, or Planned Parenthood. This event lasts until 10pm that night, and even with multiple tattoo artists on staff for the day, you’d better get there early to secure your awesome tats!

Designs will be tattooed by the artist that is next available. This is a first come, first serve event. You must be 18 years old with a valid ID to receive a tattoo. Sizes will be 4″ or smaller and limited to two places on the body. Colors will be offered, and there is a five tattoo max per turn ($20/design).

The idea came from Speakeasy wanting to give back to the community that has done so much for them.

To wrap up the event, on Sunday Speakeasy will be hosting a party at the Boone Saloon from 4pm until closing. Booneshine Brewing Company will do a tap takeover along with local bands playing live music and DJ Overcash spinning the dance party. If you are one of the first 100 people in line, you will score a free pint of Booneshine. If you are not one of the first 100 people, don’t worry because Booneshine will be on sale at a discount all night. There is only a $5 head charge for each person, which will be distributed evenly to the charities above.

Speakeasy is the oldest tattoo parlor in Boone, and highly recommended for anyone who is interested in getting their first tattoo or wants to add to their collection. If you chose not to get a tattoo, you can still come out to the party and donate to a good cause.

Judging from the amount of people interesting in the event on Facebook, there’s going to be a huge turnout. If you’re planning on getting a tattoo, you might not want to rule out the possibility of camping out. “This is going to be so much more than we could ever even imagine,” Kinnamon said. “We are creating excitement in Boone, and that energy just has everybody buzzing both in and out of the shop.”

Be sure to follow Speakeasy on social media to get a peak at possible tattoo designs, and get more information about the event. You can also check out some of the incredible work they do!
