The Pint Queen: Erin Yacuzzo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

Meet Erin Yacuzzo!

Major: Pre-Professional Exercise Science

Year: Senior

Her Take on this Boone Monsoon: “All the rain makes me want to lay in bed and binge watch How to Get Away with Murder on Netflix. This rain just really isn’t helping with my senioritis.”

Fantasy Career: Run a dog sanctuary– weird I know but I absolutely love dogs and wish I had mine up here at school with me.

Fun Fact: Erin was recently accepted into Wingate University’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program.

Celeb Status: Erin was the volunteer coordinator for the Homecoming Blood Drive this year and played a major role in the success of the day.

Yacuzzo got involved with the blood drive after one of her Alpha Delta Pi sisters, Rachel Ertl, mentioned that anyone could apply to be on the committee to help with the blood drive. She started to look into it and realized this would be the perfect way for her to give back to the campus that has given so much to her.

She really wanted to be able to leave this campus in May knowing that she did something important that made a difference. “The blood drive here at App State was my way of doing that. I was able to work side by side with some of the most amazing people to make this blood drive such a huge success.”

This was her first year working with the homecoming blood drive. “It was a bit overwhelming at first because it is such a massive ordeal not just to Appalachian but also to the Red Cross. Everyone who worked on the committee with me was extremely helpful and kind. We all worked very well together to make sure that we got what we needed done to ensure the success of the blood drive,” she said.

The blood drive was extremely successful this year as Appalachian beat the previous record and surpassed the goal. This year at the homecoming blood drive, students, faculty and staff  raised 1,322 pints, which has the potential to save 3,966 lives!

None of this would have been possible without the students here at Appalachian or the Red Cross members who provided a tremendous amount of support.
