Meet the Multi-Instrumentalist: Dayne Shelor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

On Wednesdays from 1-3 pm, you can find Dayne Shelor at Crossroads Cafe as he takes part in Appalachian State University’s Old Time Campus Jam.

He could be playing the guitar, fiddle, mandolin, or singing. As a multi-instrumentalist, Dayne is the co-lead of Old Time Campus Jam, a group that plays traditional Appalachian fiddle tunes for students on campus.

Looking to promote music around campus even more so, Dayne became an active member of Heritage Council. This club puts on events to expose students at Appalachian to local music and culture. This past summer, Dayne had an internship at The Crooked Road. As a nonprofit from the mountains of Virginia, The Crooked Road seeks to bring in tourism to impoverished areas by utilizing their rich musical and cultural heritage.

In the future, Dayne aims to play music professionally while also sharing his music locally like he does today. His goal is to be involved with a music nonprofit or work for an arts city council.

For those of you wondering how to express your talents and love for music here at Appalachian, Dayne would say, “Get out there! Go to Monday night jazz at Crossroads Cafe, come to the campus jam and go to the Jones house.” Dayne says it’s important to connect with and talk to other musicians about how to get involved on campus!
