Goodbye Unicorn Frappuccino, Hello Dragon Frappuccino

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at App State chapter.

The Unicorn Frappe was fun while it lasted, but there’s a new mythical creature in town.

While I was a fan of the Unicorn Frappe, I think it was more of a one time thing to try. I don’t think I could ever actually get it as my drink at Starbucks on a regular basis. The drink blend was just almost disgustingly sweet. I am not a huge fan of raspberry flavored things either, so the drink blend itself didn’t really impress me much.

What did impress me was the magical blue sour syrup that gave the drink life. It was a sour mango flavor and it actually made the drink. After you snap about 500 pics of your drink, mix that ish up. It makes the drink less sweet and it actually tastes really good.

The syrup by itself tastes like a blue Sour Patch Kid. If you get a sip of just syrup, it is borderline painful. I got one sip of straight syrup, and my face was scrunched up for about three minutes straight.

The two different parts of the drink are terrible by themselves. There is just no other way to swing it. However, as soon as you take your straw and swirl it all around and mix it up real good, it becomes magical. It is the perfect blend of the two flavors and that makes it actually edible.

As much fun as I had trying the new Unicorn Frappe, I am not so sad to see it go. Instead, I am more excited to try the Dragon Frappe!

The Dragon Frappe is a Green Tea based drink. That already tells me I am going to LOVE it. This drink was born because of some Starbucks stores running out of ingredients to make the Unicorn Frappe.

Some baristas got creative and blended together the ingredients to make a Green Tea Frappuccino with vanilla bean powder and a berry swirl. There is no set recipe for the drink because of how it was thrown together.

The Green Tea Frappuccino is offered year round, so you can get this any time. Just ask for a few pumps of fruity syrup to go with it! The most important thing to keep in mind is that Starbucks baristas can customize a customer’s drink in over 170,000 ways, so you can’t always expect every barista to know what you are talking about when you ask for a certain drink.

Overall, I enjoyed the Unicorn Frappe and I can’t wait to try different creative variations of it. Moderation is key, though, because all of these drinks are packed full of ridiculous amounts of sugar.
