Fall break is right around the corner, and we must make the best of it.  Thus, here are 5 fun things to do [besides sleeping and Netflix bingeing] that you can do to get the most out of your break.

.

Travel/Shop

The chill is settling in, and winter is going to be here before you know it!  Take some time to go hang out at the mall to buy winter gear, necessities, etc. so that you don’t have to trek through the snow later. Or venture to Big Y, Stop and Shop, or Northampton to do some exploring. Also, if you don’t mind inexpensive secondhand clothing, you can visit http://borntobeunique.weebly.com/b2bu-shop-my-closet.html (my site) to shop my closet.   Personally, I love to travel to Northampton to do a little shopping, go site-seeing or attend events at the Iron Horse (There are plenty of things to do besides shopping.)  If you’d rather stay close to campus, go explore the shops, buildings, and people downtown.

Schedule a PotLuck with Friends

What better way to kick off or end fall break than with yummy food, and even better, food prepared by those you trust (at least a little bit I would hope)!  I know from experience that food is always a popular way to bring individuals together and cooking with friends can provide much needed bonding time. Prepare the food together (You might even think about planning a food shopping trip.), or if you’re not into the whole cooking thing, order different kinds of food and have a yummy feast with friends.  Also, experimenting with yummy beverages (i.e. juices and mock tails) could also be a fun addition to the food.  Pop in an all-time favorite movie and enjoy yourselves!

Host a Just Dance Party

You and your friends can enjoy the comfort of JustDance right at home for free, using your phones as Wii remotes.  Everyone who wants to play need to download the JustDanceNow app, go to www.justdancenow.com and then enter the room number on the screen into the app.  The site will enter you into your room and tada!!! You are on your way to an exclusive dance party.  Bonus:  you can also play against those around the world.  The only disadvantage is that unless you have been playing for a bit and have leveled up, there is probably only 1-2 free songs available, already chosen by JustDance.  But you can always purchase passes, which are, in my opinion, inexpensive.

Explore Amherst’s Trails, Gardens, etc.

Go connect with yourself and nature by exploring Amherst’s trails, the Japanese Garden and other zen-filled areas near campus to get some fresh air as well as enjoy what nature has to offer.  I recommend walking, but biking the trails are also an option.  You’d be surprised at how relaxing and productive this activity is.

Handle your business

Last, but certainly not least, do the obvious:  handle your business. Catch up and get ahead on schoolwork, schedule much needed appointments, search jobs, start a fitness regime, clean up/out your room, update your planner, make to do lists, etc.  Organize your life.

May your break be all you have ever hoped for.
