My Semester Abroad: Prague Edition

Squid needs wide open spaces

I’ve found my happy place in Munich, Germany. The city was SO beautiful and Springfest was an unreal time. Springfest is basically a miniature Oktoberfest aka the Germans put up a state fair and a bunch of drunk american students purchase excessive amounts of beer and pretzels from them and stay in tents for 12 hours at a time. The tables and benches were laid out in a very organized fashion but were super dangerous to stand on… and you are standing on them for 75% of the time. I made a new best friend in my waitress Barb who I was incredibly loyal to- if i was across the tent and needed to order something i made sure to return to Barb. Our relationship blossomed and she became the most popular fake redhead in the tent.

I actually think I spent significantly less money this weekend because all I did was sit in a tent… the $10 liters of beer would’ve taken a toll but due to the fact that I’m a small person only so much beer fits in me. TG for the little people! Since Springfest is more of a fair than just beer tents in a lot, there were TONS of rides- this is where I spent the most money. I rode so many that definitely wouldn’t have been legal in the states- they lasted 4x as long as any ride i’d been on in the US and they did things that are definitely restricted in US amusement parks… but nonetheless it was amazing. Naturally I went back to the park on Sunday so I could ride them all again in a fully aware state and they were just as great.

The boys were lame and didn’t all buy the liederhosen but almost all the girls there were wearing dirndls. These things are literally corsets… one of my friends bruised her armpits because the it just sucks you in and up so much. They were expensive but worth it because now I can dress up like a true German whenever I want- if you see me in the dining hall next semester wearing a dirndl don’t stress, i just need to get full use out of the 50 euro outfit. Weather this weekend was not quite ideal… walking home in the freezing rain sounded like an okay idea at the time but in retrospect a taxi probably would’ve been a smart move. Regardless, weather can’t bring me down. Croatia’s up next and we’re crossing our fingers that the sun is present.

Crazy that Croatia is our last trip before we come home and take Amherst grad by storm… seriously though, prep yourselves for these boys. Weeeeee can’t wait to be home soon! Still have very mixed emotions about leaving the coolest place on earth, though.
