Meet Taylor Pelletier, HCA Fashionista Giveaway Grand Prize Winner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.
  1. Tell us about where you are from.

I’m from York, Maine. It’s a tiny town on the coast that’s actually only about two and a half hours from here.

  1. How does the weather at Amherst differ from back home?

It’s pretty much the same… less windy apparently, as my town just lost power a few days ago from a wind storm.

  1. Why did you choose to attend Amherst?

I liked the idea of a small liberal arts college, loved the campus, and the lack of math requirements certainly didn’t hurt.

  1. What are you interested in both academically and leisurely?

Academically I’m a Political Science and SWAGS double major, and I’m very interested in the intersection of those two fields. For fun I like to play tennis and ultimate frisbee, and I’m a big fan of late night shows.

  1. What are you passionate about most?

.I’m pretty passionate about politics in general, but I guess my main focus would be on issues of representation. Our government looks nothing like the country’s demographics. It’s a symptom of the many other systemic issues concerning who has power in this country, and it needs to change.

  1. Tell us the best memory of your first year.

Well I have a terrible memory and that was two years ago, but my parents were very into still celebrating holidays with me my first year. They sent me candy for Halloween and whatnot, but the best one was probably Valentine’s Day. My dad sent me an enormous Hershey’s bar and a packet of seeds– flowers and chocolate. I was pretty homesick at the time and it was just a nice surprise.

  1. What are your plans for the rest of your time at Amherst and  beyond?

I’m actually studying abroad next semester in Rome, so I’ll be saying goodbye to Amherst for a bit. After Amherst I’m not totally sure what my plan is yet, but I’d like to move to D.C and get a job in the government or non profit sectors.

  1. What is the best compliment you’ve received?

Well again I have a terrible memory, but I’m pretty flattered whenever I’m going off on some rant about politics and people tell me I should run for office/that they would vote for me.
