Let’s face it, preparing for summer after finals is a drag. We see our family and friends after all-nighters, four cups of coffee a day and taking naps in an academic building of choice when completing a “take-home” final. Whether you are going home for summer, going on a fun vacation or working somewhere in a new destination, here are some universal tips for getting ready in less than a week!
Health First
Most specialists recommend we drink eight eight-ounce glasses of water a day. That’s equivalent to half a gallon of water a day. In warmer regions, our body needs even more water to stay hydrated. Carry a water bottle on your person at all times to avoid dehydration. (Especially if you have been drinking alcohol and coffee!). I’m a huge fan of Camelbak’s water bottles because they are portable and most hold 20 fl.oz of water!
Be Prepared
Murphy’s Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Instead of worrying about what the future brings, take control with a safety net just in case. That lovely time of the month came two weeks early? No worries! Try a service like Your Monthly Gift who have special package of feminine products in discreet black boxes. No more hiding it in your bra and having it peek out of your pocket. Also, doing adult things like putting tags on your luggage or having a special bag for passport and other traveling documents.
Stock Up On Beauty Supplies
Summer is coming so many stores have begun to put out sunblock, shaving cream and mosquito repellent. If you see any items on sale, stock up as much as you can. Or, in the case of our giveaway last Friday, seeing free samples like of PureSilk Shaving Cream is also a great way to ensure you have enough for all three months of summer.
Keep Your Items Safe
As you may have noticed, we are huge fans of Vera Bradley and rightly so! The items allow us to stay organized and stay in style. There are keychains and wallets that can hang off of your waist (Goodbye annoying handbag!) and still fit all the essentials like money, your ID and your credit card. You can’t stop people from taking your stuff, but you can make it more difficult.
Stay Ahead of Trends
Spots is an AirBnB alternative for college students looking for a place to stay for a weekend or more. Chariot for Women in a website that is being piloted in Boston that only accepts female drivers and passengers. There are many apps being developed to make life easier and the earlier you get to them, the more discounts you can get. (To this day, I have never paid for an Uber ride because I always got promotional coupons!)
All these techniques can be done within a week, right before or even during finals week. Many of you received these items at our giveaway last Friday and the rest can be picked up at the Women and Gender Center. Stay well and good luck on finals from Her Campus, Her Campus Amherst and our sponsors!
