Favorite Study Breaks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.

We’ve all had those moments when, after being mentally bludgeoned by books, essays, problem sets, lab reports, and research papers, we go numb, and the horrifying condition known as “my brain is dead” or “my brain is fried” sets in. At moments like these, the best solution is to eat a snack, take a walk, or nap.

However, if you have enough time on your hands to take a nap, you probably aren’t burning the midnight oil. Therefore you turn to quick study breaks—Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, or Netflix, although the latter is a slippery slope. Here are a few of my favorite quick study break options.

Youtube *The videos on these channels are rarely more than 15 minutes long, and are usually less than 10 minutes long.

Music Video Sins—Sarcastic analyses of popular music videos. So many sins.

Lisa Eldridge—Only the best makeup artist ever with the most soothing voice ever. Also, where else are you going to see Alexa Chung and Rosie Huntington-Whitely as makeup models?

Luxy Hair—Hair tutorials. This channel has a lot of cool braids, and also involves hair extensions in a lot of looks.

Coolirpa—Thrifted transformations. April takes items from the thrift store and turns them into really beautiful and cool pieces.

Instagram

Puppystagrams—Corgis with fluffy butts. Enough said.

TinyKitchenTm—Tiny food cooked in a tiny kitchen with tiny utensils. The amount of cuteness is definitely disproportionate to the size of the finished product.

Modcloth—The clothes. Good heavens, the clothes.

Get the break you need and deserve! And get back to cracking down on studying!

Bonnie is a sophomore at Amherst College. Even though she studies statistics, she is interested in technology, pediatric medicine, dentistry, education, and public health.  She spends most of her day trying out new things, like eating an ice cream cone while biking or looking for ways to climb onto campus building roofs. "All over the place" would be the best way to describe her.
