Christian Collegiate Women: Several Reasons Why You Should Make Time for God

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.
When you love someone, don’t you want to spend time with him/her?  When you miss someone do you occasionally let them know you are thinking of them, if not all of the time?  If you answered, “Yes” to either question then it should not surprise you that if you love God, you should do the same.       For those of you looking for me to explain why you should put God first in your life, keep reading.

Ephesians 2:12,13- “In those days you were living apart from Christ.  You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them.  You lived in this world without God and hope (12).  But now you have been united with Christ Jesus.  Once you were very far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. (13)”

He’s More than Just God.  He’s our Heavenly Father.

1)  Ultimate Reason:  Rewarding Experience

Matthew 6:6

  • Rewarding Experience
    • Confirmation of God’s Existence
    • Trust in God will Grow because you will get to know him on a more personal level. [James 4:8]
    • As a result, your faith will grow.
  • Confirmation of God’s Existence
    • More time you spend the more you will be able to recognize his voice.

2) You will Begin to Take on God’s Image

James 4:8

  • Will gain the Spirit of God which includes but not limited to:
    • Mental, Spiritual, Emotional Peace [Ephesians 2:14;  Philippians 4:6,7 ]
  • As a result, of this plus your growing faith and trust in God, you will experience things you would have never dreamed of being capable of experiencing.  Your dreams will be fulfilled and so much more.

3) Natural Fruits of God’s Spirit and Acquirement of God’s Image

Naturally, when you spend time with someone, you pick up on certain characteristics and traits that they have.  If you ever wonder why some Christians don’t actually portray the characteristics of the God they claim to serve, it is almost 99.9% certain that they don’t have a genuine relationship with God and are “playing the role” of Christian. After all, you know a tree by its fruits [Insert Scripture Here] Due to the natural fruits (results) of God’s spirit, when someone spends time with God, they tend to become more:
  • Wisdom
  • Humility [James 4:4]
  • Life – Big things
  • Fear will diminish, if not go away entirely; become more bold and sure
  • Spirit of Peace [Ephestians 2:14;
  • Know that you are never alone
  • Maintain Hope in this cruel world

4) NATURAL RESULTS of spending time with God

  • Happy, fulfilling life
  • Lose sense of self-righteousness
  • Gain humbleness
  • Self-discipline
  • Serenity
  • Peace
  • Understand what really matters in life, and take pleasure in the little things
  • Won’t make time wasting mistakes you could have avoided
  • Trust God with the smallest t the largets thing I.e. finances

You know how people always say that something gives them life? This is how one feels when they began to have a GENUINE relationship with God.  It is also worthy to note that our Heavenly Father LITERALLY allows us to have life. [Insert Scripture Here]

Final Thoughts

If you can make time to be with that special someone or someones, then you most definitely should be making time for God.  Even if you don’t make time for anyone or anything else besides one thing, that one thing should be God.       God doesn’t need you; you need him, and he loves you enough to want you to come to him, to trust in him, and to love him for him as he do you.  He loves us unconditionally, and he doesn’t have to. If we really love someone, we desire to hangout with them, to talk with them, share your concerns and dreams…why can’t you do that with God?      Take out some time in your day and set it aside for God.  Church and Bible Study does not count, but that’s a start.  Participating in church activities count, but I mean just some one-on-one time with God.  I see Instagram posts all the time about people wanting a “bae” or is looking for a “real relationship, no games, etc. etc.” Make God your “bae” and see what happens. I dare you. Keep an Eye Out for How to Make Time for God (Coming Soon). Questions? In the meantime, head on over to my ask.fm, or leave your comments below!
