Good Sista/Bad Sista

These two phenomenal women write powerful, provocative and political performance poetry with attitude. In the service of soul-sister security of the First, Second and Third Worlds, these poetic provocateurs borrow ballpoints, pilfer paper and liberate language to manufacture mind bombs and lob them on unsuspecting audiences. Turiya and Walidah teach in elementary, middle and high schools, in juvenile detention facilities and in prisons, as well as at Portland State University’s Black Studies Department. The duo has toured nationally and internationally. They have shared the stage, singularly and together, with Angela Davis, Doug E. Fresh, Nikki Giovanni, bell hooks, John Trudell, Chuck D, Spearhead and Saul Williams, among other....

Eco-Friendly Fashion

            As Earth Day (April 22nd) approaches I would like to talk about some environmentally conscious initiatives taken on by several design houses and retailers. I love clothes, and I like to think that I stay relatively on-trend from season to season, but this way of life is not particularly kind to the planet. It requires enormous amounts of resources, both renewable and un-renewable. If you are passionate about living sustainably then clothing is a great way to live in an eco-friendly fashion, pun intended entirely.
