Ever get bored of your plain white headphones, but aren’t sure you need intense over-the-ear ones? (I am for sure intimidated by those!) Well Amherst student Aiyanna Greene has you covered! She is in the process of creating her own headphones called Alkimees. Alkimees are unique because they are designed to look like a necklace, so you can express your own personal style (something we at HC Amherst are in full support of) while listening to your favorite music. Aiyanna tells us, “my inspiration for the design of Alkimees came from a necklace. More specifically, from a necklace that I imagined Cleopatra wearing. “ So, these headphones are perfect for all you style stars out there. Aiyanna also says she “loves that I can match the pendants with my earrings”. Yay for coordinating accessories!!
We all need to use headphones at one time or another, but why should we all have to have the same pair? Aiyanna says she “loves that Alkimees look and feel like a necklace, but at the same time function exactly like normal earphones do. Wearing/using them to listen to music is a unique experience”. Personally, I love that Alkimees turns a normal activity into a super-fun fashion statement.
Aiyanna launched a 40 day kickstarter campaign for Alkimees with the hopes she can raise the funds to complete the first production run for Alkimees headphones. Aiyanna is hoping to begin shipping Alkimees as early as October. I cannot wait to see how they look with my favorite outfits. Aiyanna has put a lot of work into the Alkimees headphones, trying several different texturing techniques, so I’ll bet the finished product is amazing.
