New Albums Just In Time For Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Music is a summer staple. It provides the soundtrack to our beach days with friends, bonfires at night, or long road trips. Summer 2014 won’t be complete without the necessary song of summer. Be sure to look out for these albums which all come out just in time for Summer 2014.

The Black Keys: Turn Blue

The Black Keys will be releasing their eighth studio album on May 13. This album is the follow up to the largely successful album El Camino. El Camino earned the 2013 Grammy for Best Rock Album, while the song Lonely Boy earned two awards: the Grammys for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. Turn Blue has already spawned two singles, “Fever in March”, and the titular track in April.

Phillip Phillips: Behind the Light

The American Idol winner gained a lot of success when his song “Home” became the song for the 2012 Olympics. His debut album, which came out six months after his American Idol victory in 2011, had a second single “Gone, Gone, Gone”. Phillips returns with his sophomore album, Behind the Light on May 19. His new single “Raging Fire” has already been making a splash on TV with performances on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and Conan. The song has also been featured during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Miranda Lambert: Platinum

One of country music’s leading ladies will be releasing her fifth studio album Platinum on June 3. She recently made history as artist with most consecutive wins in the ACM Vocalist of the Year category after winning for the fifth straight year at the April 6 award show. This new album is following the success of previous album Four the Record and its singles. Her lead single off the new album Automatic was first released in February and was her highest debuting single at number twenty-six on the Billboard Country Airplay music chart.

Coldplay: Ghost Stories

Chris Martin and Coldplay return on May 19 with Ghost Stories, a new nine-song studio album. This album has been influenced by Martin’s recent split from wife Gwyneth Paltrow. Before the release fans can go on a hunt for the lyrics to the songs on the album. The lyric sheets in Chris Martin’s handwriting have been hidden in ghost story books in libraries in nine countries across the planet. Coldplay will also be having a show at Los Angeles’s Royce Hall on the night of the album’s release.

Ed Sheeran: x (Multiply)

Ed Sheeran is finally releasing the extremely anticipated follow-up to his 2011 hit album + (Plus) on June 23. His first album contained hit singles “Lego House”, “The A Team”, and “You Need Me I Don’t Need You”. The new album’s lead single “Sing” was released on April 7. He will be going on a North American Tour during August and September.
