It’s almost that time of year again. That’s right-it’s almost time to go out and buy lovely gifts for all the wonderful people in your life as the holiday season quickly approaches. You could spend big bucks on store bought gifts this year, or you can consider channeling your creativity by making amazing gifts for those you love!  To get the ball rolling, here’s a list of 8 ideas to get you started.

Scrapbook

Scrapbooks are the perfect gift for your mom, dad, grandparents, significant other, or best friend! All those photos you have on your phone, camera, or in hard copies (you go Glen Coco!) can now be put to use by making beautiful scrapbooks filled with memories.  You can buy kits from Amazon, at your local craft store, or at a major retailer like Walmart or Target.  After buying a book and coming up with a theme, you can start putting together the wonderful pages filled with memories of good times!

Photo Gifts

Following in a similar theme, making a photo gift is a great way to use all of the photos you have stored up. A photo blanket, photo mug, a calendar, and a pillow are just a few examples. These gifts are great because they are functional, but they also allow the receiver of the gift to remember the great times that they’ve had with you. To top it off, they’re perfect for a person of any age.

Blanket

If you’re good at sewing or knitting, consider making a blanket for a loved one.  Blankets are functional gifts and whenever the person uses it, they will remember the wonderful person who made it for them. You really don’t even have to know how to knit or sew to make a blanket. Some kits are even sold that include two pieces of fabric that just have to be tietogether.  There are also some awesome tutorials on how to make blankets just with your arms and no other tools on YouTube, so be sure to check these out. No matter which way you decide to make the blanket, it makes an excellent gift.

Food in a Jar

Everyone has a favorite food or recipe. Grab a cheap mason jar with a lid at your local retailer or even a dollar store and then look up the indgredients for your loved one’s favorite recipe online. For example, you can put the ingredients for a cake, brownies, or cookies within the jar. Just measure out all of the appropriate dry ingredients and add them in one by one.  From there, write a card with the recipe on it, tie it to the jar, and the gift is complete.

Self-Care

There are so many options for a self-care kit. This is the perfect gift for anyone who wants to pamper themselves!  Start with a basket or a cute bag, and then get ready to make some of the smaller elements to put into this gift! Don’t know where to start? Try looking up some informative tutorials on youtube on how to make bath bombs, body washes, lipglosses, soaps, or bubble bath.  Wrap them in tissue paper or cellophane and tie them up with a bow before placing them in the bag or basket.

Glass Decoration

Find a glass, vase, or some type of cup as well as some waterproof long-lasting paint. You can personalize these items by dying the bottom of the vase, or painting the initials of the person on it. These gifts are functional but still personalized, so that the receiver knows you took the time to create the gift for them.

Decorative Candle

For those in your life who love the delightful smell and look of candles, this is the perfect gift.  These candles can be decorated to have dripping wax in different meshed colors.  Additionally you can take a plain white candle and add text. You can even make a candle yourself with a few simple steps and then decorate it. When you’re all done with making the candle, be sure to wrap it up and add note describing how you made it.

Bookmarks

For the bookworm in your life, consider taking a few minutes out of your day to create a unique handmade bookmark. By taking a simple strip of fabric in and adding a few little touches, you’ll have the perfect bookmark to give as a gift. The steps are relatively simple depending on what you want the bookmark to look like; it can just be a piece of fabric with a little string and tassel on the end. Or you can opt to make a bookmark that connects and wraps around the pages of the book completely.

These are just a few simple, yet amazing possibilities fo gifts to make this holiday seaseon. The best part of these lovely gifts are that they are hand-crafted for someone you hold dearly.  So the next time you’re in a pinch to find a unique gift, look no further than these excellent homemade presents.
