How to Be Resilient in College (As Told by the Bachelorette)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Alabama chapter.

Resilience is essential in college–where you will be thrown into new situtations and get hit with curveballs you never knew existed. Here are some tips I have learned through my experience that have helped me in becoming a resilient collegiate.

1. Find a support group!

This could look like your closest friends in your sorority, a church bible study, or even those awesome girls from your English class. Or a group of people dating the same person as you??

2. Stay positive!

No matter what goes wrong in your life, there is always something positive to come out of it. Hey, James Taylor just got broken up with and he feels like “the lucky one.” What would James Taylor do?

3. Don’t get too stuck in the past!

Robby accepts the truth and is ready to move on. Don’t dwell on that chemistry test you failed…start preparing for the next one!

4. Don’t be afraid to feel emotions!

Resilient people aren’t afraid of their emotions. As we can see, throughout Season 12 of The Bachelorette, Jojo had a lot of them. My college professor once told me, “Feelings are not good or bad, they just are.”

5. Remember to take time for yourself!

Whether that be by working out like Chad every second, or just sitting under a tree to think, taking a break for you—and just you—is essential after a long day in any collegiate’s life.

Now go be resilient and show college what you are made of! If you need more direction, see below for some Chris Harrison encouragment…

Hey guys! My name is Kourtney Jakubowski and I am a sophomore at University of Alabama, I feel so lucky! I came from beautiful San Diego where I learned to keep active and always seek new adventures. College is scary, so I hope to make that transition a little easier! Roll tide
