When you graduated high school and went off to college, you may have worried about how that would affect your friendships that you maintained in high school. If you’re like me and went to a university without any of your friends or even anyone in general from your high school, it can be hard. I will be the first to admit, there are VERY few people that I communicate with from high school. I now think of it as growing up and moving on rather than “losing friends”. If these people were to call me today and needed me, I still would do my very best to be there for them. It has taken me now 2 years to learn this but I now realize that it’s okay to move on. I don’t think there is anyone in which I ended on bad terms with and that itself makes everything better.

Another piece of wisdom that I learned is to move on but don’t forget. Believe it or not, your high school/hometown made who you are today. Their encouragement, support, and cheers helped get you to the place you are in life now. It is important not to forget those in your past. You don’t call them every day, week, or month but a simple visit, text, or letter time to time can make a difference and show your appreciation.

College will change you in some form or fashion. I’m not saying you will end up going from angel to rebel but you will experience change. It’s okay for you to make new friends, have fun, and move on. After all, a big part of college itself is growing up.
