Monday: Class

Monday was the last day I would have both classes in one day (yay!). That of course means I spent most of my day indoors and begging to be outside in the sunshine. How could I not? The window to my classroom shows me this:

Tuesday: Beach Day

Having both classes in one day on Monday made me appreciate my day off on Tuesday so much more. Erin, Caitlin and I decided to take advantage of the sun and spend the day at the beach!

Afterwards, the students at Sant’Anna got to go to a local gelato shop and take a gelato making class! We learned how to make lemon gelato and and hazelnut gelato, as well as eat three free cones of gelato!

Wednesday: Potluck and Celebration

All this week, Marina Grande, the marina area below our school, was alight in celebration of the name Sant’Anna, which is also the name of our institute. Every night there were bells ringing in the bell tower and a few little fireworks, all leading up to the big fireworks show that will be on Monday evening. There were lights hung all over in celebration!

The students decided to join in the fun by having a potluck dinner at the dorm! After everyone was stuffed on tacos, pasta, salad and fruit, we all headed outside on the terrace to enjoy the view of the sunset, as well as play some games together! With our time coming to a close, anytime spent altogether seems more and more precious to us.

Thursday: Breakfast and Schoolwork

I have been so lucky to have so many days off of class this summer, and I am definitely going to enjoy it while I can since I probably won’t get this again in my college career. So Erin and I went out for breakfast at a cafe in the main square of Sorrento.

After enjoying an amazing breakfast, we went back to the dorm because she had class that afternoon. I took advantage of my spare time to get some school work done. Productivity levels were much higher than normal! I got my presentation completed for History, put finishing touches on my History paper, and wrote my part for our group paper in Archaeology. I realized that I never finished the book I started on the plane ride over to Italy, so I decided to relax and finish reading it out on the terrace that evening. No better views than that for leisurely reading!

Friday: Study, Study, Study

Friday I had History of the Mafia class, but having finals looming in the near future gave me the feeling that studying should definitely be made my priority. Granted, I have a great view to study in peace, but studying still brings a damper on the day.

Saturday: Relaxing and Pasta

After working so hard on Friday, I gave myself a much deserved relaxation day on Saturday. After sleeping in until about 11:30, Stephanie and I went to grab sandwhiches from the deli for lunch, then we relaxed and watched Netflix on our laptops for the afternoon. That night, a group of students from Akron went to Bar Syrenuse for dinner. This restaurant had the best gnocchi I have had yet in Italy, and that’s saying a lot since Sorrento is known for its gnocchi alla sorrentina!

Sunday: Boating

As a way to enjoy our last weekend in Italy, Erin, Victoria, Abeer, and I booked a boat tour for the island of Capri. While we already did Capri not long ago with our school, the island is still so beautiful, it would be totally worth it! We even made some amazing friends on our boat! Atheli and Amber are two girls from Australia who work in London now but were in Sorrento on holiday. Emma and Daniella are two girls from Australia studying abroad for an internship at Vogue in Milan! We had so much fun getting to know these girls throughout the day that we even brought them to our favorite pizza place, Pizzeria da Franco, in Sorrento for their last dinners here before ending their weekend travels!
