The Top 10 Cheesy Rom Coms for the Perfect Girls Night In

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

Everyone loves a good cheesy romantic comedy even if they don’t admit to it. Here are my top 10 super cheesy romantic comedies to make any girls night in a success!

1. 10 Things I Hate About You

This is one of my all time favorites and always my go to rom com. This 1999 film is an adaption of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Featuring the ever dreamy Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, very young A-listers like Julia Styles, Gabrielle Union, and Larry Miller, who played Paolo in the 2001 and 2004 Princess Diaries movies. You definitely do not want to miss Heath Ledger singing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You.” *Swoons*

2. The Princess Bride

This 1987 classic has heros, villians, romance, sword fighting, and will have you laughing from start to finish. When a little boy is home sick, his grandfather comes to read him a story, and that is where the real story begins. Carey Elwes plays our hero, Westley,  and like any good romance movie, shows us that his love for the Princess Buttercup will never die.

3. The Wedding Date

The pressure of bringing a date to a wedding is enough to send anyone into a frenzy. In the ‘Wedding Date’, Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) takes a different approach to bringing a date to her younger sister’s wedding. Terrified of confronting her ex-fiance alone at the wedding, Kat hires a popular male escort (Dermot Mulroney) to pose as her new boyfriend. However, she is not the only one who is keeping secrets in this family.

4. She’s All That

Bringing it back to the 90’s, She’s All That brings us around to the beginning of Freddie Prinze Jr.’s carrier, before he was Fred in the Scooby Doo Movies. She’s All That focuses on Prinze’s character who makes a bet that he will turn an unattractive girl into the prom queen. Little did he know he would be getting a lot more than just a prom queen. Alongside Prinze you can find many stars like Anna Paquin, Gabrielle Union and the late Paul Walker.

5. John Tucker Must Die

John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe) has wronged his last girl. 3 ex-girlfriends (Ashanti, Sophia Bush and Arielle Kebbel) with the help of John Tucker’s latest target (Brittany Snow) come together and plan the perfect revenge for this player. This movie also features Penn Badgley (aka Lonely Boy from Gossip Girl), and Taylor Kitsch (aka Tim Riggins from Friday Night Lights).

6. Leap Year

I recently came around to watching this one and I have to say I was very surprised by how much I loved it. Amy Adams travels halfway across the world to Ireland to propose to her boyfriend on February 29, which is the Leap Day. Fate had other plans and she ends up going on the adventure of a lifetime, and she may just find true love along the way.

7. Made of Honor

This hilarious movie is one of me and my sisters favorites to watch, laugh at and quote. Patrick Dempsey (McDreamy for the Grey’s Anatomy fans), along side of his Grey’s Anatomy co-star Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt in Grey’s), and the beautiful Michelle Monaghan will keep you laughing from beginning to end. Dempsey’s character, Tom falls in love with his best friend, Hannah (Monaghan) and attempts to win her over after she asks him to be her maid of honor for her wedding to Colin (McKidd). Can he do it?

These 3 honorable mentions will just reveal my love for Josh Duhamel…

8. When In Rome

Kristen Bell plays Beth, who has never been lucky when it comes to love. When she travels to Rome for her sister’s wedding, she meets the best man, Nick (Josh Duhamel) and is attracted to him. After seeing him with another woman, she gets drunk and goes to the famed Fountain of Love and takes coins out of the fountain that were tossed in by men looking for love. When she returns to New York, the 4 men whose coins she pulled out of the fountain (played by Will Arnett, Dax Shepard, Jon Heder and Danny DeVito)  start coming onto her and Nick (Duhamel) keeps calling her. We will soon find out if she will end up with the best man or one of the men from the fountain.

9. Life As We Know It

When their mutual friends die in an accident, Holly Berenson (Katherine Heigl) and Eric Messer (Josh Duhamel) become the caregivers to their orphaned baby girl. These two have to figure out how to not just take care of the child, but also how to get along. Heigel and Duhamel have great chemistry, but you’ll have to see Life As We Know It to see if that chemistry plays out in the movie.

10. Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!

This film brings a fun twist on your typical rom com love triangle. When a small town girl named Rosalee Futch (Kate Bosworth) wins a date with a celebrity named Tad Hamilton (Josh Duhamel) it creates a very tense love triangle between Rosalee, her best friend Pete (Topher Grace) and Tad. This is not an overly popular movie, but it is definitely one to watch.
