Easter Bunny is Coming!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

Easter is upon us and let’s face it, it isn’t always the first holiday that comes to your mind when someone asks what your favorite holiday is. But, you can bet that as soon as St. Patrick’s Day passes, it is all about Easter! There are some things that just make Easter what it is every year and I cannot imagine Easter without these 5 things.

  1. Dying Easter Eggs

This has to be my favorite part of Easter. Growing up, my sisters and I would spend hours coloring Easter eggs and just having fun. Now, my sisters are either moved out or busy so while it is not as much fun, I still love to color eggs and try out all the cool new trends they have (shaving cream and food color is what I’m trying this year!)

2. Making Chocolate Crosses

I know this is not a thing that everyone does but I always used to help my mom make Easter chocolates. We would make chocolate crosses, bunnies filled with peanut butter, little lambs, and so much more. We spend hours melting chocolate and putting them into the fun Easter molds while listening to our favorite music (Phantom of the Opera always makes its way into there). Making chocolate has slowed down over the years but it is definitely a tradition I plan to continue with my kids one day.

3. Candy

While we’re all thinking about chocolate now… CANDY is the bomb around Easter. From Peeps (sorry if you don’t like them, but they are an Easter essential), Robin’s Eggs, Jelly Beans, Lindt Chocolate Bunnies, and of course Cadbury Eggs! I am riding a sugar high from the moment I get my Easter basket to the moment I pass out from a sugar coma and it is amazing.

4. Mass

Easter Mass, whether it is the Vigil the night before or mass during the day, is wonderful. There is such a happy and bright feeling in the air. The Vigil mass is a bit longer than your typical hour-long mass but it is so worth it and the candles that my church does makes it even better because the candles light up the whole room and it is just beautiful. This Easter Sunday Mass is a little more special this year because the noon mass at my church is dedicated to my aunt who passed away 6 months ago.

5. Family

Easter has always been a holiday that I always felt just a little bit closer to my family during. Sometimes we have a big celebration with the entire family and other years we have smaller gatherings with just my immediate family.

No matter what you do, how you celebrate, who you celebrate with or how much candy you eat, Easter is a “hoppy” and joyful holiday! Happy Easter to you all!
