HC DEPAUW PHOTOBLOG
The Final Inning Stretch
Wednesday, May 16, 2012Alright, people. We’re almost done! There is one more week until we say goodbye to another year and hello to Summer 2012. Before we get to the shining light at the end of the tunnel, we have to get through the worst time of the year…second semester finals. The time of year that we spend the most time with our “boyfriends”: Roy O. and Julian. Between all the studying and final projects, make time for yourself. A little study break can go a long way when you have been working hard for hours. Take a tip from ladies on campus who know how to make a study break as effective as possible. Study hard and just know that HerCampus believes in you!

First year, Abby Thompson takes some to read non-academic books at the campus favorite, Blue Door Café.

Sophomore, Shannon Mahoney gets creative by using meditation and nature to relax. What better place to go than the nature park?

First year, Lauren Abendroth takes a few moments to enjoy a nice meal off-campus.

And if you don’t trust yourself to leave your work space and also return, take a few minutes and read HerCampus articles! Good luck, ladies!
Make Your Mark
Wednesday, May 9, 2012From the things we carry to the décor on our walls it is trending! Showing off your initials is definitely in these days. Almost every girl I know came to school with at least one thing monogrammed, but don’t you feel like it’s a growing trend? Check out how you can show off your name...

By hanging a letter on your wall…

Wearing a charm around your neck…

Carrying your initials on your cup,

On your keys,

Or in your hand!

Even showing off a little skin with a monogrammed towel never hurt anyone!
Not Just Blue Jeans
Tuesday, May 1, 2012Is your closet looking a bit washed out? Do you have a case of the blue jean blues? Well this new spring trend is sure to cheer up both you and your wardrobe. That’s right, we’re talking about colored denim!!
Girls have been channeling the rainbow lately with colors from all over the spectrum, from vibrant turquoise and bright purple to soft pastels. These jeans are perfect for any spring activity—pair them with a cute floral top for class, or a casual sweater for a lazy Sunday lounging outside. You can even dress them up for brunch at Almost Home with mom! No matter how you choose to spend your sunny spring days, these pants won’t let you down! So instead of giving up on your closet, give this trend a try. It definitely won’t leave you feeling gloomy…

Ryan Konicek (’15) adds a splash of color to her simple black top by sporting a pair of vibrant aqua shorts.

Sarah Harbison (’12) brightens up her outfit with a pair of sunny yellow jeans.

Paired with a white top, Suzanne Spencer’s (’14) coral jeans look bold and bright, giving her a look that will certainly turn heads this spring.

Natalie Weilandt (’15) dresses down a pair of red jeans with a casual blue and white striped top and flats.
Your Little 5 Outfit Essentials
Friday, April 27, 2012Your Little 5 Outfit Essentials
by Natalie Weildant
It’s that time of year again… Hope you like loud screaming, big crowds and an age-old campus tradition! Of course you do, it’s LITTLE 5 WEEK! Nothing better than this happy holiday to give you a break from the woes of second semester studies! Little 5 brings us plenty of interesting sights and experiences: boys’ questionable grilling techniques, visiting with graduates, and of course, special occasion outfits! Unless you hate fun, you’ll probably be spending most of your weekend outside, right? Well this is the time to throw caution to the wind and ignore the weather… Wanna wear your brightest neon Nike shorts and a frat tank when it’s 50 degrees? Go for it. Planning on embracing the drowned rat look if it rains all day? We’re not judging. Fortunately, students have come up with weather practical and ever frat-tastical pieces that have lasted the test of time (and nature’s curveballs) over the years. So leave it to HC to plan your outfit, all you need to be worried about are Monday’s Facebook albums…
Fact: Backwards hats make everything more fun.

It’s just not complete without neon—and these kicks add just the right touch!

Overalls are SO cute for warm weather, not to mention SO Indiana!

The fanny—almost as classic as Little 5 itself.

Clearly, there are some all-time winners when it comes to the garb we
sport for this momentous weekend. You can count on these pieces to
keep you looking like you’re prepared even when you’re not feeling so
responsible. So grab that monogrammed coozie and strap your fanny
pack on tight, it’s gonna be a crazy ride!
Spreading Service All Around
Wednesday, April 18, 2012Service is spreading across DePauw’s campus this Spring. On this past Sunday, DePauw students were found clearing out garlic mustard in the Nature Park, spreading mulch at Robe Ann Park and working at Camp Friend helping to start up the camp again! This is what happens when DePauw students come together to help a good cause. We appreciate the Greencastle community and everything they have given to us. So, why not do a little to help them out? It’s important to help out more than helping the Greencastle economy through buying weekly Marv’s.
Think community service is boring? There are fun ways to help out “the Castle” that doesn’t have to be manual labor. DePauw Community Service put on their first annual Campus Golf Tournament this past Sunday. This tournament was to help raise money for the ever-needy community service clubs on campus. Looks like DePauw students are taking the Greencastle community by storm. Hopefully, this will lead to only good things ahead.

DePauw Students enjoy helping pulled various plants in the Nature Park.

Other students helped mulch the playground.

Camp Friend is trying to restart and DePauw students are right there behind them helping pave the way to a successful new beginning.

Children appreciate the help DePauw students provided to their favorite park.

So, get out into the community, DePauw. DePauw students enjoyed helping and meeting local children during their day of service.
The Things They Carried
Tuesday, April 10, 2012The Things They Carried
Spring has finally sprung, and it is more than obvious on this college campus! I’m sure most of you have noticed the recently planted “DePauw” tulips adorning almost every street corner and have no doubt just returned from an Easter egg filled weekend. Whatever you’ve been up to, I would bet you’ve encountered some bright, fun spring colors! With warm weather coming our way, most DPU girls are trading out their sweaters and North Face jackets for some lighter and brighter pieces that are sure to spread the sunshine into even the gloomiest cubicle in Roy O.Whether you’re sporting a backpack, purse, tote, or satchel don’t forget about your necessity-carrier while taking part in this seasonal swap. Bags are a perfect way to add that special something to any outfit. This spring’s trends include pastels, unique textures, and lots of embellishments! Your next dilemma will probably be “How will I ever chose just one carrying companion?!”. Well no need to fret my friends, I have come up with some different ideas for what to carry to class, the frats, and anywhere else you decide to venture with a new found “spring” in your step!

This cute tote is perfect for the DePauw student. Make a statement on your way to class with bold patterns like the stripes shown above, while also having plenty of room to bring along your books!

Tangerines and corals are everywhere this season! Why not sport them with your favorite "fratchel" when you go out this weekend?

You can't go wrong with a neutral classic that will match any spring color you choose.

This unique cross-body brings spring flowers right into the pattern while still having a bohemian and tribal feel to it!
