Dancefest Spring 2012

This past weekend, Colgate dance troupes performed over 20 dances in front of a chapel-filled audience. Dances ranged from ballroom dancing to ballet, hip hop to belly dancing. Dancefest is one of the best attended events of the semester, so if you missed it this semester, make sure to check it out in the fall!

Last Saturday at 2 pm, Shaggy performed in the Sanford Field House. He performed a combination of his own music and other songs from popular reggae artists including Welcome to Jamrock by Damian Marley.

Colgate Day

As most Colgate University students are well aware, this past Friday was Colgate Day. Colgate Day is every Friday the 13th and is celebrated by Colgate students and alums alike. To celebrate Colgate Day, there was an ice cream social and cook out, as well as a lecture with keynote speaker Sir Richard Branson. This event brought a large number of visitors to the campus including parents, friends, alums, faculty, and students.
Another celebration was the worldwide trending of #colgateday, which was trending just after 1:00pm (at 13:13pm, exactly).

Eric Greitans Visits Colgate!

This past Thursday, CEO of The Mission Continues and former Navy SEAL, Eric Greitans, visited Colgate and spoke with an audience of students and professors in Love Auditorium. He spoke on his experiences traveling, training, and now working with veterans. For those of you who missed his talk, check out his website http://www.ericgreitens.com/ and http://www.missioncontinues.org/?gclid=CMi0is2do68CFWUQNAodCHfaXgfor more information on his current project "The Mission Continues", a nonprofit organization that challenges and helps veterans to continue serving once home through community service and other ways of giving back to the community. Mr. Greitans has also authored two books "The Heart and the Fist" and "Strength and Compassion".
I think all the people in attendance can agree that his talk was one of the, if not the most, inspirational talks we've attended. The articulate, level-headed, and not to mention good-looking, Mr. Greitans provided students with valuable insight into ways to persevere and continue doing good for others.
His visit was sponsored by many Colgate clubs and organizations, including the Shapna Project.
Holi 2012!

This past Saturday Colgate University students gathered on Whitnall Field to celebrate the Hindu holiday Holi. Holi is the festival of colors and is celebrated by throwing paint at each other. The picture here shows the result of the paint-throwing fun!
