One of the best parts about summer is all the free time you have to read for fun, something most collegiettes™ don’t have time for during the semester. Here are some great reads you should definitely check out. The Classics: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy: This 1,000 plus page Russian novel might take you all summer to read, but trust me, it’s worth it. Known as one of the...

Most of the college students I know (myself included) have attention spans equivalent to hyperactive puppies. This can lead to wasting hours upon hours taking “study breaks” on the internet, a practice that is often detrimental to our grades. I’ve found that it’s more productive to set aside five-minute study-breaks every hour or so that involve getting up from my desk....

Nicki Minaj is nuts. We know that. Alter Egos, strange Grammy performances that potentially offend religions groups, 3 ft. tall wigs and a rear end whose authenticity has lead to hours of heated debate. We love Nicki; so much so that we make allowances for the ridiculous, the terrifying, and the vulgar. But we have good reason; the woman can churn out mindless dance-floor numbers with the same...

There is some debate about how productive one can be listening to music while studying, but I think that with the right song choice music can help create the perfect environment for focusing. The key is to choose songs without distracting beats that also won’t put you to sleep while you’re struggling through a problem set. In this playlist I’ve included some well-known hits like...

College is a time when young men and women learn about how to interact with one another, so that they can go out into the real world and not muck things up.  Much of that learning is through physical experimentation.  In the spirit of furthering the education of the Amherst men, the females of Amherst have put together some advice about what we women would like to see (and feel) from...

Considering how cute the town of Amherst is, it always amazes me that there is only one brunch place that is walking distance from campus.  Of course, I am referring to Lone Wolf.  Freshman year, I went there every other Sunday (my personal favorite is the Challah French Toast).  Unfortunately, this habit is not kind to your pockets (or your health for that matter), so I have not...

Well, folks, we’re nearing the end of the spring semester – which means it’s time once again for all of the chaos, excitement, and anxiety that is Room Draw.  The best way to beat the stress of room draw is to go in well-informed about all of your options, so this week I’m going to tell you what it’s like in the little corner of Amherst College where I currently...

Let’s be honest—finding a good internship or job is about as stressful as applying for college. Okay, that’s just not true, but it’s an ordeal in itself. So I decided to take a look at the Amherst Career Network. The Alumni Career Network is such a great but underutilized tool that is very easy to access.     You go to the Amherst website, go to Find People, and...

I was driving with my friends to Northampton for dinner on your average Wednesday night. I had been asked to review a restaurant on the Amherst Indicator’s dime, and had planned to go to Thai Garden. But in the car, my friend casually mentioned the fact that we should go to this ice cream spot called Herrell’s.            ...

I was lucky enough to have breakfast at Wheat Berry on Sunday morning, which proved to be a great experience. The bakery and café, located on Main Street and open seven days a week, is really charming. The cozy restaurant smells of freshly baked bread and pastries, making your mouth water right when you walk in. The décor is warm and homey, bushels of wheat line the windows,...
