You Have to Check Out This Tinder-like App for Friends

What if you had Tinder, but instead of using it to chat with gross, Donald Trump-loving boys, you could use it to find friends? Well, now you can, with a new app it is aimed at women seeking completely platonic girl friends, according to TechCrunch

The app is called Hey! VINA, and it allows you to set up a profile, much like Tinder, in order to meet people with similar interests and tastes. According to heyvina.com, the process works in four steps:

  1. You sign up via Facebook. This allows the app to make introductions for you based on the network you already have.
  2. Once that is done, you will fill out a series of surveys about yourself! So based off of that, you will be matched with people with similar interests and other people who are at a similar stage in life. So for example, if you are a hard-core Yogi, you will be matched with others who are fanatics as well.
  3. Time to swipe! Just like Tinder, you can swipe right or left depending on if you are interested in becoming friends with a person. But Hey! VINA emphasizes that the pressure is not all on you. They write, “We’ll send you both an introduction message when you get a match!” Phew.
  4. Now, make it more than just a game! Time to meet up IRL and enjoy your new friend!

Basically, the idea for the app is to create a community, so that busy women can make friends without the stress. And the coolest part about it is that it was created by two women who genuinely felt like they needed this in their lives. Olivia June Poole and Jen Aprahamian, the app’s founders, worked together previously. Because of their jobs, they both had to travel a lot and found it difficult to make new girlfriends wherever they were—and so Hey! VINA was born.

While you’re at college, it seems like there are endless opportunities to make friends—dorms, extracurriculars, parties, Greek life, the list is endless. But this app could be an amazing tool for when you’re in an unfamiliar situation, like when you’ve just moved to a new city for a summer internship.

Basically, say goodbye to the days of having no one to watch The Bachelor with, and say hello to Girls’ Night! Sign me up.

The app is now live on iTunes
