Many times vending machines are the best part of a building—when they’re working, that is. But so many of them just aren’t living up to their potential, when they could sell so much more than food! There’s one guy who gets it—The Huffington Post reports that at one Brooklyn laundromat, there’s a vending machine that sells pregnancy tests, Plan-B (the morning after pill) and lube, right next to M&Ms and Snickers bars.
Peter Rose, the owner of Sunshine Laundromat and Pinball, explained his motivation for choosing the items to DNAinfo: “I was just bored one day perusing the aisles of CVS,” he said. “I saw [the Plan B] and thought, ‘That doesn’t belong in a vending machine,’ and so I bought some.” According to DNAinfo, both the pregnancy test and lube cost $10 each, while the Plan B sells for $35. Tech Insider reports that all three items are cheaper than they are at other drug stores, where a Plan B ranges from $40 to $50.
And in case potential buyers are worried about impending regulations, Food & Drug Association spokesperson Andrea Fischer told DNAinfo: “There is no provision in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act that prohibits the sale of over-the-counter drug preparations in vending machines or in places other than drug stores.”
After this, who knows what’ll be in the vending machine next? Perhaps Beyonce tickets?!
