Amidst all the controversy about the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, President Trump has found a way to play the victim. Today, he gave a speech to the graduates of the United States Coast Guard Academy about fighting in the face of adversity, according to CNN.
The adversity he’s supposedly facing? The media’s treatment of him—in the past and during a series of scandals over the past couple of weeks. He said, “Look at the way I have been treated lately, especially by the media, no politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly.” He then called the media critics and naysayers who are getting in the way of his dreams.
He appeared to be responding to recent reports that he tried to stop Comey from investigating Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser. According to a memo Comey wrote after a one-on-one meeting with the president, Trump told Comey, “I hope you can let this go,” referring to the investigation of Flynn for his conversations with Russia prior to Trump’s inauguration.
I guess this speech was meant to be inspirational, but all Trump is doing here is teaching our future Coast Guard ensigns to cry victim in the face of any adversity.
Some advice from the rest of that speech: “Don’t back down and never stop doing what you know is right. Nothing worth doing ever, ever, ever came easy. And the more righteous your fight, the most opposition you will face.”
Not sure what exactly is so righteous about blackmailing, spreading false information and subtweeting anyone who makes you a little mad. Fighting with the media does not make you look like a hero, Trump.
