This Transgender Woman’s Photo With the Texas Governor Shows Just How Ridiculous ‘Bathroom Laws’ Are

ICYMI, Texas is currently in the process of trying to pass a ‘bathroom bill’ similar to one in North Carolina that legally requires transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds with the biological sex listed on their birth certificates – but one Texas transgender woman just nailed everything that’s wrong with ‘bathroom laws’ like these with one simple photo.

Cosmoplitan says Ashley Smith took to Facebook to share a photo of her with Texas governor Greg Abbott, who is a major supporter of SB 2, the bill that would make it illegal for her to use the restroom that matches her gender identity. She captioned the photo, “How will the Potty Police know I’m transgender if the Governor doesn’t?” DAYUM GIRL.

Her post has been shared over 2,000 times and proves an important point: it makes absolutely zero sense for trans people to use any bathroom other that the one they feel comfortable using based on their gender identity.

“Sometimes it’s not really apparent who transgender people are,” Smith told CNN. “We’re just regular folks.”

And seriously, the bottom line: is it even anyone’s business which bathroom someone chooses to use? There are better things for lawmakers to be worrying about right now.
