People Transferred A Billion Dollars Over Venmo in January

Venmo, the app you probably use to pay your friends back for alcohol, just announced that last month people transferred over $1 billion through the money app. That’s a lot of late-night pizza and rent payments. BuzzFeed reports that after a total of $7.5 billion being transferred in all of 2015, the money app shows no signs of slowing down.

Venmo’s parent company is the ever-popular PayPal, whose chief executive Dan Schulman explains that the growing digital app “really is almost ubiquitous in the under 30 marketplace and it is how they manage and move their money.” If you’ve ever watched a group of college students deciding how to split up a restaurant bill, you know that’s true.

According to Fortune, you’ll soon be able to pay for some delivery services and other items through Venmo, which will expand the app even more. Keep your fingers crossed for Chipotle and Starbucks delivery!
