People Are Getting Emotional Over This Gay Couple’s Adorable Photo from a Pride Parade 24 Years Ago

If you identify as LGBTQ, you’ve probably rolled your eyes at some point while being told that your sexuality is “just a phase.” Even though it’s obviously a stereotype, a gay couple shattered this misconception about LGBTQ couples with one photo – and the Internet is obsessed.

BuzzFeed News reports that 54-year-old Nick Cardello and 52-year-old Nick English recently celebrated their 25th anniversary by heading down to Washington D.C. to attend the Equality March last Sunday. While there, they managed to re-create a photo they took together at the same event, in the exact same location in 1993, and shared a side-by-side of the two photos on Facebook. Naturally, it was adorable – and clearly, the everyone agreed, because the photos also almost instantly went viral.

The best part? Some (genius) person took the opportunity to tweet the photos with the caption, “it’s just a phase,” completely shattering stereotypes about LGBTQ peoples’ sexuality in the process. Basically, the response Cardello and English’s photos received on Twitter will give you hope for humanity:

While the couple was reportedly shocked at the comments at first, Cardello told BuzzFeed News, “When we started reading the comments and were tuned into what it meant to people … that was really touching,” he said.

Aww. #CoupleGoals, am I right?
