Following the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history, in which over 58 people were killed and more than 500 were injured at a Las Vegas concert, a mother of one of the victims of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting has spoken out.
Nelba Márquez-Greene, whose 6-year-old daughter was among the 20 children killed in the 2012 shooting, took to Twitter on Monday to call out Congress for their lack of action on gun control laws following tragedies such as the ones in Las Vegas and Sandy Hook.
“I don’t know what to say besides this is on every congressperson who said in ‘13: There is simply nothing we could do,” Márquez-Greene tweeted. “Every day, I am stunned by the level of trauma (direct or vicarious) congress is willing to make us suffer through.”

“Their lack of courage and/or ability to take meaningful action on issues that most matter: healthcare, violence, climate, etc is outrageous,” she added in a later tweet.
Much like in the aftermath of other mass shootings, discussion of gun legislation has only increased — especially considering the fact that Congress is considering a bill that would roll back regulations on gun silencers (devices that would make it even more difficult for police to find and stop shooters). Hopefully, Márquez-Greene’s message will be a wake up call to congressmen and women that it’s time to take action instead of only offering “thoughts and prayers.”
