Meryl Streep to Receive HRC’s Ally for Equality Award

Because Meryl Streep is the most perfect human being in the world, it is no surprise that she is going to be honored at the 2017 Human Rights Campaign New York Gala this month.

According to the HRC website, the award that Streep will be getting is the HRC Ally for Equality Award which “recognizes the outstanding efforts of those who use their voice and publicly stand-up for the LGBTQ community.” As well, Streep is the type of person who “dedicates their time, energy, spirit and whole-hearted commitment to better the lives of LGBTQ people,” and that is why she is receiving the award.

HRC President Chad Griffin also says that there really is no better choice than Meryl Streep. “Throughout her phenomenal career, Meryl Streep has used her voice to stand up for the LGBTQ community,” Griffin said.  “Whether through her iconic roles that raised the visibility of LGBTQ people, or by boldly speaking out for equality, Meryl Streep embodies the very nature of what it means to be an ally to our community,” he continued.

And we couldn’t agree more. Congratulations, Meryl, aka queen.
