Ivanka Trump Posted A #TimesUp Tweet & The Internet Was Having None Of It

Oprah’s speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday made the whole Internet explode into a frenzy that ranged from simply praising her amazing speech to calling for her to run for president in 2020. Two days later, the buzz hasn’t subsided, but some of it has taken on a different tone. Ivanka Trump joined in on the choruses of praise by tweeting, but her words weren’t received well by the rest of Twitter.

She called Oprah’s speech “empowering and inspiring” in the tweet and urged that people come together to say “#TimesUp.”

Her words generated almost immediate backlash from the rest of the Twittersphere. A great deal of it came from women in Hollywood, who created the #TimesUp movement in order to continue to draw attention to and combat sexual harassment in show business and other fields. Most of the backlash was directed at the behavior of her father, President Donald Trump, and how her behavior was “complicit” in his actions.

More than a dozen women have accused President Trump of sexual assault, harassment, or misconduct.

While her tweet was probably written with good intentions, it’s tone-deaf (at best) and leaves a sour taste in the mouths of many.
