HC Wake-Up Call: Americans Watch Netflix at Work & in Public Restrooms, Russell Simmons & Brett Ratner Accused of Sexual Misconduct Together & KFC’s Christmas Ornaments

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Americans Get Away With Binge-Watching Netflix at Work and in the Bathroom

At this point, people’s Netflix habits are far from surprising. But in a new survey commissioned by Netflix, 37 percent of 1,600 Americans polled admitted to watching Netflix at work, while 12 percent have done so in a public restroom. The New York Times reports that the most popular places among Americans to stream outside of their homes are airplanes and public transportation. Call me crazy, but doesn’t the streaming speed in a moving vehicle always stink? I’ll stick to binge-watching at home.

Russell Simmons & Brett Ratner Are the Center of New Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Producer Brett Ratner has recently been accused of sexually assaulting six different women, while Gal Gadot has also reportedly refused to do a Wonder Woman sequel if Ratner returns to help finance the film. Now, Ratner has been accused of sexual misconduct once again, along with CEO and music producer Russell Simmons. The Los Angeles Times reports that a then 17-year-old fashion model has accused the men of sexually assaulting her in 1991. Ratner, then a music video director, and Simmons reportedly invited Keri Claussen Khalighi to Simmons’ apartment after taking her to dinner one night, asking if she wanted to see a music video they had been working on. Once there, Simmons began ripping off her clothes, and when Khalighi asked Ratner to help her, he “just sat there and watched.” Simmons then forced her to perform oral sex on him and later made a sexual advance on her in the shower without her consent.

Simmons has disputed Khalighi’s claims in a statement, saying, “Everything that occurred between Keri and me occurred with her full consent and participation.”

KFC Releases Its Own Christmas Ornaments

There’s trinkets out there for everyone. For any obsessed fried chicken fans in your life, KFC’s New Zealand locations are giving out sets of Christmas ornaments celebrating the fast food chain’s menu. Each set contains ornaments of a drumstick, a package of fries, a bucket of chicken and Colonel Sanders’ face. I’m sure that for some people, this is clearly the perfect recipe for a happy holiday season.

What to look out for…

I don’t need much of an excuse to indulge in some desserts, but today is known as National Peanut Butter Fudge Day. Seeing as Thanksgiving is this week, maybe you can get ahead on your baking schedule by trying out a peanut butter fudge recipe today!
