A French Instagram Fitness Guru Was Killed By an Exploding Whipped Cream Canister in a Freak Accident

Posted -

This past weekend, Rebecca Burger, French Instagram fitness blogger, died as the result of a freak accident involving a whipped cream canister, Cosmopolitan reports. The canister, which had been recalled by its manufacturer in 2013, exploded and struck Burger in the chest, apparently causing a heart attack.

While it is unclear from current reports whether Burger was alone at the time of her death or whether she could have been saved, both her family and the cannister manufacturer have commented on the incident.

Burger’s family spoke out via her Instagram to warn her 180,000 followers of the dangers of the dispenser.

In their caption, they implore Burger’s fans and followers to watch out for the canister, because although the item was recalled several years ago, many were not returned to the manufacturer. They also posted an announcement of Burger’s death on Wednesday.

Ard’time, the manufacturer of the whipped cream dispenser, expressed slightly ambivalent comments about Burger’s death, according to a USA Today article. “"Unfortunately, there are still lots of siphons of all brands that remain potentially dangerous as time passes," an Ard’time representative said.

The response was similar from a consumer reporting magazine. "It is, to our knowledge, the first time there has been a death from such an explosion. … We knew it would happen one day," said Benjamin Douriez, editor-in-chief of 60 Million Consumers.

A recent post of Burger’s expressed her love for life, and had an eerily prophetic caption:

Burger writes, “A beautiful day comes to an end. Many travels to come and new projects. Recently, I have taken time to sit back and think about everything I have already accomplished and everything I am about to experience... I tell myself that life is beautiful. We don't have credit on time so we have to enjoy it to the fullest <3."

Our hearts go out to Burger’s family.
