The search is on for a 17-year-old boy who is reportedly the father of a baby born to a 9-year-old girl in Mexico.
The girl, identified as ‘Dafne’, delivered a 5.7-pound healthy baby girl by Caesarean section. Both were released from the hospital yesterday and said to be in good condition.
But seeing as the legal age of consent in Mexico is 12, the girl’s parents and officials are trying to locate the 17-year-old father, who has reportedly run away.
“We are looking for the young man to get his story because she does not understand what has happened,” said Jorge Villasenor, a state prosecutor. “This is a rape or child sex abuse case.”
‘Dafne’ was reportedly just over 8-years-old when she became pregnant. Incidents like hers are incredibly rare, though not at all impossible. Last year, a 10-year-old Colombian girl gave birth to a baby girl and a 9-year-old Chinese girl gave birth to a baby boy in 2010.
