SLIDESHOW: 15 Hockey Playing Campus Cuties

Name: Harrison Aghjian
Year: Sophomore
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Relationship status: Taken
Hometown: Brookfield, WI

Campus activities: UW Racing Team, UW Men’s Club Hockey

Interests: Cars, hanging out with friends, water skiing, snowboarding

Best trip you’ve ever taken: The best trip I’ve ever taken was senior year of high school – myself and two of my good friends took a spring break trip to Mexico. There was lots of super chill drinking on the beach during the day and copious amounts of raging at night.

Quote you live by: “I make plays.” – Garrett Johnson

Dream job: My dream job is to be race-car driver, not for Nascar, though, I like to turn right sometimes. If being a race-car driver doesn’t work out I’m sure I could turn my FIFA 12 skills into a profit somehow.

Favorite part about being a UW-Madison student: My favorite part about being a UW-Madison student is being part of a great academic institution while still being able to view some of the best sports teams in the nation. Just a great all-in-one deal.

What do you look for in a girl?
She has to be super cool and not air headed, I like to think of myself as an intellectual. She has to also be down with water-sports and/or fishing because I do a lot of that in the summer to keep it real. Oh, and not high maintenance.

Nominator’s input:
“Harrison’s a smart, funny, and athletic guy, but he doesn’t let that get to his head. He’s so down to earth and genuinely a nice person. In my opinion, Harrison is the perfect guy and definitely deserves to be a Campus Cutie, and I think many people would agree. All hair aside, (he’s growing his out to have an atrocious hairdo for Mifflin) Harrison is hands down one of the hottest and smartest guys on campus. I think he’s the perfect representation of a ‘campus cutie.’”

Tell us about Goals for Good and the current auction:
Goals For Good is a competitive charitable platform that revolves around college hockey. Each team in the ECAC has partnered with a charity in close relation to their team, school and/or community. The teams raise money for their charity by getting family, friends, fans, and alumni to donate money per goal and/or per win that they get over the course of the season at http://www.GoalsForGood.org. The team that raises the most money will receive a $1,500 donation to their local food cupboard. The rankings are updated each week, and currently, Colgate and our partner, the Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund, are in first place.

We are currently running an auction with the women’s team’s Autism Awareness Project to benefit Autism Speaks and all of the Goals For Good charities. There are some pretty cool items up for grabs such as an autographed Sidney Crosby jersey, an autographed Ray Allen jersey, and an autographed Jim Craig ’80 Olympics Team USA jersey to name a few. All of the information on the auction can be found on the main page of the Goals For Good site. The auction ends on February 18th.

How’d you come up with Goals For Good?
I was hurt my sophomore year and missed the entire season. During this time, I got the chance to see how much work and support goes into the hockey program. It took me a while to get Goals For Good started, but I wanted to figure out a way to thank the Hamilton and Colgate community. Goals For Good grew from there.

Upon graduation, what do you hope to do?
I’m planning on playing hockey professionally, as well as continuing to build Goals For Good to other leagues and possibly other sports.

You can support Kevin’s charitable organization by donating online. Colgate can win this competition (we’re currently in the lead), but your help is needed. You can donate to either the men or women’s team since all the donations from both teams will be combined and sent to the Brendan Borek High Tides Memorial Fund. Be sure to check out http://auction.gocolgateraiders.com.

Name:
 Vic Satir

You may have seen Vic around campus, whether he’s next to you in class, or hanging out with his SAE brothers, he’s someone who isn’t easily forgettable! Most recently, you can find him planted on a stage, mic in hand. That’s right – not only is he smart, cute, and funny, he’s a musical genius! He can play the piano, guitar, sing, and now he is adding rapping to his repertoire (it’s okay, you can swoon)! I caught up with him to find out how he got involved in music, and how Her Campus readers can get a listen!

On his Twitter bio (@vicentesatir), he describes himself:
I write lyrics about things I read in Cosmopolitan while listening to John Mayer on my way to Neiman Marcus before hockey practice.

When did you start rapping?
I just started rapping last April actually. I went to Panama City, FL for spring break last year and I won a rap battle in front of a couple thousand people. It went 7 rounds, and I fell in love with the idea of controlling the crowd. When I got back a bunch of my friends told me I should sit down and write some lyrics to instrumentals, so since then I’ve been writing to express what’s going on in my head; songs about life, women, and everything in-between.

What types of music are you interested in?
I love all types of music. John Mayer to Jay-Z meets Drake and Blink 182. Classics like Frank Sinatra and Blues guys like Stevie Ray Vaughn. I’m starting to like country too ps.

What kind of music do you like to perform best?
I play guitar, piano, and I rap. But I think I like rapping the best. I have plans to combine all three, but well just have to wait and see how that all turns out.

Where do you perform?
I’ve performed shows at UNH in the GSR and on the SAE front lawn, as well as smaller shows at various coffee houses.

Do you write your own songs? Where do you find inspiration?
Every lyric I write is my own. I find inspiration from life. Everything from struggles with friends, yearning for women, the trials and tribulations of college and trying to live every minute like its the last one you have. If you listen to my music one thing I say all the time is that I found the key to LIFE. And L.I.F.E, literally meaning Live It Full Everyday. I’m convinced that isn’t just a coincidence so I try to throw that in there wherever I can…Also I talk about my mom a lot. She taught me so many things about life and interacting with people that I think those lessons are worth sharing.

What are your goals in the music industry?
First and foremost, to stay happy and creative. Then my goal is to change the way music is presented to an audience. Every rap concert these days has artists rapping verses over tracks with lyrics in the background. Part of my plan to combine multiple instruments is to create the music live first, and then come in rapping over the top.

How can we get a listen?
I just put out a mixtape, a Friday the 13th release called “One Thirteen”. You can listen and download here.

Vic is always looking to play so contact him if interested!

What do you miss most about Canada?
Probably the hockey. Also my friends, my family, and free health care. I also don’t have allergies in Canada, but in the States I do…and I have to pay for the medicine because this isn’t Canada.

What countries have you been to, and where would you like to travel someday?
I’ve been to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Malaysia, Thailand, India, China, Japan, Singapore, France, England, Italy, Turkey, Mexico, Spain, United Arab Emirates, the Caribbean, and Tunisia. I’d like to go to Greece, South America, and the Middle East. I also want to go back to France.

Describe yourself in 3 words: Charming, active, conscientious.

Any hidden talents?
Nothing special, but I do a lot of public speaking, debate, etc. I also play a lot of sports like hockey, football, baseball, basketball, and tennis.

Favorite food: Thai food. My life hasn’t been the same since my friends introduced me to Pad Thai.
Favorite restaurant in Philly: It’s a three-way tie between Hummus, Pattaya, and New Delhi. Oh, and Banana Leaf. I love food.
Favorite pick-up line: “Let’s count shoulders.” My second favorite is “girl, you must be exhausted because you’ve been running through my mind all day.”

Celebrity crush: Keira Knightley.

Best pranks you’ve pulled off:
I was able to get into one of my friends’ rooms and while he was at breakfast I took all his clothes and tied them into a huge rope of clothing. I proceeded to hang the rope of clothing from the junior balcony on top of McClelland. When he left McClelland after breakfast he noticed that there were clothes hanging and I believe he said, “I’d hate to be that person.” Little did he know that it was all his!

Another time I was able to get into the same friend’s room, and on his wall he had photos of himself that spelled “India.” I thought his room needed redecorating… so I rearranged the photos to spell out “Aly.” Somehow, he knew it was me.

Most embarrassing moment at Penn:
I don’t know if this is embarrassing or just heartwarming but I was in SHS when I first got to Penn and I was trying to find a shortcut after stopping by International House to get my documents approved (something only international students have to deal with) and somehow on my way back to the Quad I ended up on Baltimore Avenue. It was raining cats and dogs outside and I ended up being really late to convocation…and my clothes were wet. I even called a new friend I made during NSO and he gave me the wrong directions; he intentionally misled me.

Best Penn memory:
Probably the third or fourth night of NSO — I was with my new friends and one night instead of going out we just stayed in and played ping pong, ate crêpes and watched movies. It was delightful because those friends turned out to be my best friends at Penn.

Oh, and also the night my friends surprised me on my birthday with tickets to see a hockey game (Toronto vs. Philadelphia). They gave me two tickets and when I got there they were all waiting for me. That same night they got me my favorite kind of cake from The Cheesecake Factory and then they took me back to my room, which they had decorated, and one of my friends got me a signed jersey from my favorite hockey team.
