Spring Break 2013: 5 Places To Go

Spring break is just around the corner, and we’re all ready to let off a little steam—but where are the steamiest places you should go for your mid-semester vacation? Don’t worry, Her Campus has you covered! Check out these sunny spring break destinations for a little vacation-planning inspiration.

Cancun

This is the one of the first places that pops into someone’s mind when you say “spring break,” and for good reason—not only is this place MTV’s Spring Break headquarters, but there are few sights as gorgeous as the white sands of the beach stretching all the way out to the beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.

There are tons of things to do while you’re in this exotic locale. Whether you spend your time at the MTV hotspot Fat Tuesday’s, set up camp on one of the local beaches, or dance the night away at Senior Frog’s (or any of the other clubs in the area), you’re bound to make some memories you’ll never forget! …Or, uh, maybe you’ll never remember.

Lots of underage collegiettes head to this particular locale because the drinking age is only 18, but make sure you’re careful about how much you’re drinking! And don’t forget, you’ll need your passport to make this trip—along with some pesos in place of your American dollars.

Panama City Beach

This is one of the hottest spring break destinations around, and you don’t even have to leave the country! Loads of college students flock to Panama City Beach, FL every spring.

Whether they’re drawn to the 27 miles of gorgeous white sand beaches, the perfect tropical weather, or the non-stop party atmosphere, clearly they’re having a good time when they arrive in what’s affectionately referred to as the “Spring Break Capital of the World.” They even boast the largest club in the United States, called Club La Vela, along with other fun hot spots like Spinnaker, Harpoon Harry’s, and The Sandpiper Beacon!

Check out the official Panama City Beach Page to figure out where to stay and what to do while you’re there—even better, you can sign up to get a Panamaniac Club Card before you arrive and you’ll get free cover at most of the bars, over 30 hours of free drinks, and free swag.

Miami

Just about as close as you can get to being outside of the country without actually being outside of the country, Miami is located at the very southern-most tip of Florida. It’s one of the top spring break destinations in the world, and for good reason!

After you figure out where you’ll stay without breaking the bank, start thinking about what you’re going to do. Do you want to do some shopping in South Beach, or work on your tan on the seemingly endless Miami beaches? Either way, you’re looking at a sunny trip full of fun.

Once the sun goes down and you hit some of the hottest nightlife in the country, make sure you don’t look too much like Snooki and The Situation before you leave the hotel (and try to minimize the amount of times you sing LMFAO’S “I’m In Miami, B*tch!”)

Jamaica

If you’re looking for white sand beaches, warm Caribbean waters, and the sweet sound of reggae music in the air, then Jamaica is where you should spend your spring break.

Figure out which of the gorgeous resorts you’ll stay in, whether it’s the Negril Tree House resort right on Seven Mile Beach or the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach on Montego Bay’s hip strip. (The latter is an all-you-can-drink mega-resort that offers free kayaking, parasailing, and Scuba tours—but it’s all in how much you’re willing to spend!)

Then check out the music scene at Risky Business, or enjoy some live music with a cocktail in your hand at Alfred’s Ocean Palace, “unleash your inner animal” at a club called “The Jungle” (that’s what spring break’s all about, right?!)

Puerto Rico

Starting to feel like Mexico on spring break is sooooooo cliché? Head to Puerto Rico instead! It’s got all the perks of heading to a foreign country without all of the passport hassle—as in, you can drink as long as you’re over 18, but you don’t have to exchange your cash for pesos or Euros or anything other foreign currency!

In March, Rincon is just finishing up their version of “winter,” so it’s low 80’s with just the right amount of humidity and sunny skies as far as you can see. Check out the great waves and the pristine beaches, and get a tan without scorching your skin to a crisp!

Stay up late (until 4 in the morning!) sipping fruity drinks and dancing to great music at the infamous Casa Verde, a straight-from-the-movies kind of surfer bar hopping with college students—so many that sometimes the party spills out onto the street!
